Why Does a Cat Make Such a Good Pet? The cat is an ideal pet for todays modern society. Most people spend a large portion of their day outside of their home. Time can be at a premium for many of us and a pet that requires a lot of our time and attention may not be a practical option. Cats on the other hand make only minimal demands on their owners and are for the most part independent creatures. What to do if your cat goes missing It happens to every cat owner at some time or another, your cat goes missing. What do you do? The first important point is not to panic. The obvious place to begin a search is inside your own home. Quite often your cat is not actually missing, it has simply found a warm and secluded hideaway in the home and simply gone to sleep. Cat Care - Understanding Your Cat As in any new relationship it takes time for the two new partners to get to know each other’s ways and little foibles. Let your cat teach you In some cat books you may find a chapter about how to train your cat. However, I have yet to find a book that has a chapter on how to let your cat train you. How to live in harmony with your cat If you read some cat books you will come across a chapter headed something like “How to train your cat”. I can only suggest that this is written by someone who has never had a cat because quite simply you cannot train a cat. It is however, possible to “teach” a cat certain things but unlike a dog who can be trained to perform tricks and obedience a cat will only actually do what it wants to do. Cats - We all need a little love. By agreeing to share your home with a cat or cats then you are taking on a big responsibility. I quite deliberately said share a home rather than own a cat, as anyone who has had cats previously will know, you may own a dog but you never own a cat, They are like children, they will allow you to give them love, care and affection but they will never let you own them.
