    Is there ANY fast food that's really good for you? I actually never recommend that you eat ANY fast food, BUT sometimes we forget to plan ahead and find ourselves in a bad situation. Do you we just not eat or do we order the fast food? It's actually much better to make a good choice at a fast food restaurant than not eat at all. But, you shouldn't have to make that choice most of the time! You should always plan ahead. Take the time to think about the next day. Will you be away from home for extended periods of time? If so, prepare some quick and easy meals that you can eat while away from home. Eat a full meal once every 3 hours. Plan accordingly. I always take a few shaker bottles with me filled with whey protein and ground oats. I also take a few baggies full of walnuts or any other types of nuts. I make sure to have a big water bottle with me at all times. Then, I simply fill the shaker bottles with water, shake, and drink. Perfect meal! You've got to add some veggies too! I like to cut up broccoli, cauliflower, all types of peppers, carrots, and cucumbers. I put them in a large baggie and they're ready to go. Combine them with the whey protein, oats, and walnuts and you have some perfect meals for building muscle and burning fat. If you failed to plan ahead (try not to), you'll need to make the best decisions when you're ordering fast food. Let's say you're at McDonald's, what are you going to order? The french fries are out. Never order or eat french fries. You don't need them. Never order the fatty hamburgers and the white bread buns. That's about the worse combination is is sure to make you fatter. The best choice would be a grilled chicken salad with lots of vegetables and about a half pack of ranch dressing. Don't get extra packs of ranch and pile it on your salad. And always drink water with your meals and nothing else. A no calorie lemonade is good too. If you know you're going to be eating fast food and have no other choice, get nutrition facts for that restaurant and make a good choice before you go. Then, you won't be tempted to order anything else. It's actually better to check nutrition facts and make yourself a little list at what you can have from certain fast food restaurants. Make sure what you choose fits your meal plan. Trust me, you DO NOT NEED fast food. Yes, it's quick and easy but so are some of the options I've already given you. You'll get faster results, better results, and you'll feel much better. I went without eating fast food for several years, and I felt much better without the fast food. Eating healthy tastes much better and feels great! When you eat healthy foods, you WILL have higher energy levels for lifting weights. You'll create the OPTIMAL muscle building and fat burning environment. Your metabolism will be higher than ever. And your body will reward you with higher levels of muscle mass and lower levels of body fat. I wanted to mention Subway because most people believe it's healthy. I'm sorry, but Jared isn't much healthier than he used to be. Sure, he lost a lot of body weight but he lost lots of muscle in the process. You can already see that he's easily gaining fat back and soon he may be in worse shape than before. Stick to the grilled chicken salad loaded with veggies at Subway. Stay away from most of the other stuff. How long does it take you to wait in a drive through line or a line inside a restaurant? I'll bet you that it's longer than it takes to make some quick and delicious meals at home. For example, I can make a taco salad with lettuce, spinach leaves, lean beef, fat free cheese, fat free sour cream, and salsa in less than 5 minutes! All you have to do is take some time to plan ahead.

Vitamin D helps your body absorb and use calcium, a mineral that gives strength to your bones and teeth, and helps your nerves and muscles function properly. Vitamin D also helps your immune system function effectively, and reduces inflammation. A growing body of data now indicates that adequate levels of Vitamin D in our blood stream can also provide protection from hypertension, psoriasis, multiple sclerosis and rheumatoid arthritis. Because of Vitamin D's ability to help the body regulate absorption of calcium it's also showing it's ability to assist in reducing the severity of fractured bones. New research is showing Vitamin D's critical role in defending against cancer. More than a dozen different cancers are linked to a deficiency of Vitamin D according to a number of studies. Finally, the newest research is showing that proper amounts of Vitamin D can help in the battle with diabetes and help reduce heart disease and occurrence of heart attacks. Many people, however, have difficulty getting enough Vitamin D What is the proper level of Vitamin D? According to scientific research the proper level of Vitamin D in the blood stream is 40 to 60 ng/ml (nanograms per milliliter). The only way to assess your Vitamin D level is through a blood test. The testing can be performed locally through your primary physician, or by the use of labs that can be found by searching the Internet. Prices at the time of this writing were in the $40 USD to $90 USD range. If you use an Internet lab you are sent a kit in the mail along with detailed instructions. In general, you simply prick your finger, apply drops of blood to the test strip, mail back, and wait for the test results. In early tables, it was recommended that an average adult between the ages of 14-50 intake 200 IU of Vitamin D daily. At that level, a couple of glasses of fortified milk or a serving of tuna fish would supply that need. At age 50, it was suggested this amount be doubled. New recommendations place these daily levels at 2,000 IU daily for anyone over the age of 14. At this level it becomes difficult to get adequate amounts through diet or sunlight alone. If you live south of a line drawn from Los Angeles to Columbia, South Carolina it's possible to simply get your Vitamin D from the sun. Draw a line from San Francisco to Philadelphia, and anyone north of that line will find it almost impossible to get adequate amounts from the sun for six months out of the year. Sources of Vitamin D. If you live south of a line drawn from Los Angeles to Columbia, South Carolina it's possible to simply get your Vitamin D from the sun. If you're fair of skin or your job or lifestyle keeps you out of the sun, diet and supplementation may be in order. Draw a line from San Francisco to Philadelphia, and anyone north of that line will find it almost impossible to get adequate amounts from the sun for six months out of the year. Good dietary sources of vitamin D are butter, margarine, cheese cream, yogurt, milk eggs and fortified orange juice. The richest sources of vitamin D are fish-liver oils, particularly those of the halibut and the cod. Other fish sources are tuna, salmon, and mackerel. At most however, you generally won't receive more than 200-300 IU from a helping of fish, which has the highest level of Vitamin D. Fortified milk for example only has around 100 IU's per 8 ounce serving. As you can see, you would have to eat a great deal of food to achieve adequate levels of Vitamin D on a daily basis. What About Supplementation? The Linus Pauling Institute suggests that generally healthy adults take 2,000 IU (50 mcg) of supplemental vitamin D daily. Because of variables in diet, geographical locations, skin types, age, among others, supplementation is the only way to insure that you are getting adequate amounts of Vitamin D. The most viable type of Vitamin D for consumption is Vitamin D3.
