Wordpress SEO Advice

By: Bradley Kingshaw

If you have a Wordpress site with the aim of making money from it, you will already know the importance of getting traffic to your website, without traffic you won’t get very far. That is why understanding some elements on how to SEO your Wordpress site can be a valuable asset to any site owner and their quest to get visitors by the bucket load.

The good news is that as an owner of a Wordpress site you will already be at an advantage over 90% of the static HTML sites out there due to the fact that the structure of a Wordpress site can be easily crawled by search engines.

That said there are still some things you should implement to make sure that your site is not liked by the search engines, but loved by them instead.

For Great SEO Always Contain Your Keyword

The first thing you want to do is to make sure that you are optimising each post for the keyword you are targeting. If you are looking to dominate the “Green Widgets” Niche, make sure you mention that term not only in the post title but in the first and last paragraph of your article. Also mention it once in the middle of the article too.

Make Sure You Include Headers

Other ways to optimise your post is by the use of Header tags. Again use these tags as titles to sections in your article, as always make sure you contain your keyword or a related keyword in each of these headers. This article is using headers, can you spot them?

Internal Linking Structure Will Improve Your Site

As was mentioned earlier, the sheer fact you have a Wordpress site means that you have a great internal linking structure already in place. You can however improve on this by creating links your self from within your posts.

An example of this is when we link the term “SEO For Wordpress” back to this page we are strengthening this article for that term. So when someone uses Google and searches using that keyword, there is a bigger chance this website will be found.

You don’t just need to link back to the post you are creating you can send links to anywhere on your site such as your homepage or other posts you created in the past that you would like to promote.

Make Sure Your Meta Data Is Optimised

By optimising your Meta data you are giving the search engines even more of a clearer idea on what your page is about. The important aspects of Meta data you will want to be on top of is the page title for each page on your site, the description of each post you make and last but not least the Meta tags.

Don’t worry if you are a little confused by changing the Meta data, thankfully there are many great plugins that will help you out. The best one being All In One SEO.

So there you have it, if you make sure you follow these simple rules and make sure that the key areas above are optimised, you will slowly but surely see an increase in the traffic going to your Wordpress site.
