Women Need To Protect Their Strength To Keep Themselves Out Of A Nursing Home

By: Gen Wright

We know now that if you want to stay out of a nursing home in the last third of your life you need to look after your muscle strength. For women especially this is really important as they tend to ignore the condition of their muscles. It is not like men do not need this message too - they do. But women need it more as they have less muscle to begin with and become frail and lose their physical functionality faster than men.

Women also place less significance on the strength of their body, and it you were to guess which body parts would be high on most women's wish lists, you could bet strong functional muscles would not be up there. Right from being a little girl women learn they need good hair, good skin, a good backside, legs and boobs, but strength, no thank you - not really our department.

Yet the anti-aging benefits of a strength training program for women that strengthens and tones the muscles is a real asset to how they look, feel and function. It will make your body look younger as it fights the sagging, drooping aging affect of shrinking muscle tissue. It can rebuild, firm and reshape your body like no other activity or exercise can, moreover it does not take too many weeks of consistency to notice results.

It is a total myth that exercising with resistance exercise will make women bulky - women do not produce enough male hormones to develop their muscles like a man. If you want to lay the blame for getting bulky somewhere blame the excess body fat that has accumulated.

This really is the 'big' bit - the little muscle underneath should not be blamed as it is the bit that burns fat - highly metabolically active muscle tissue. Unlike soft flabby fat which sits around burning little fuel for energy. So, if you get rid of some of the fat and replace it with some firm, muscle tissue you will be a much smaller woman.

Here are some more benefits:
• Increased bone density and strength - less risk of osteoporosis
• Stronger joints and connective tissue increase joint stability to help prevent injury
• Increased all over body strength for everyday or sporting activities
• Increased metabolism (the bodies engine) so body fat is decreased
• Improved mental and emotional health, self esteem and self confidence

Women tend to think of anti-aging remedies like Botox or surgical options like face lifts, but these largely external procedures do not tackle the sharp end of aging that is tucked away largely hidden in nursing homes around the world.

That is the bad news but the very good news is that there is a solution -strength training exercise. Every adult women needs to be doing it if she is to avoid landing herself in a nursing home which is something nobody would want. Keep your muscles strong with proper strength training exercise and you can be sure you will never end up like that.
