Will you die feeling unsuccessful?

By: Hedy Bookin_Weiner

Our instinctive association with success in this society is career and financial achievement. Have you heard about some very rich people dying unhappy? Despite earning or inheriting millions, not to mention spending them, their lives weren’t satisfying. People say by rote money doesn't buy happiness, although of course, it can help. Yet we still think that the next toy will bring us happiness that lasts for more than a few months.

So what brings lasting happiness? There's actually a science of happiness now, and among its findings are that close personal relationships and a sense of a supportive community are key factors in happiness. That's a reason why church attendance is found associated with happiness.

Depth of involvement with an endeavor that's satisfying and has a sense of purpose, or gives meaning to your life is another key factor. Only you can know what that is, but when you know it, it can inspire your work. It need not be financial work, it can be a hobby, volunteer work, or artistic interests. They may not bring you money, but once you identify them, you get the motivation to get the money to support your purpose.

That is why entrepreneurs recognize that's why it is critical to success. If you start a new network marketing business, your sponsor should be checking to be sure you really know your true. It might be something like wanting to stay home with young children. The larger why from your deathbed scene might be wanting to have a wonderful relationship with your children and have done the best job of parenting you could. It could be wanting to enjoy your family to the fullest and give them the kind of attention only a parent can.

Knowing what success really means to you is critical for two reasons. First, if you aren't following your values and your dream, no matter how much money you make you won't feel successful or be happy.

The second reason you need to know your core desires is that if they’re not linked to your work, it's hard to have the drive necessary to succeed. It's easy to be deterred by setbacks. You may think of some people with miserable personal lives and large fortunes. It&'s easy, just look at the tabloids at the grocery checkout! These people may not be successful in all areas of their lives, but they were for two reasons: they undoubtedly wanted to be successful, famous or rich as one of their core desires, and their talents fit their career.

If the life of someone you loved depending on your achieving something, would you give up? When the going gets tough, it's not the tough who get going, it's the motivated, those people who know that no matter how many setbacks and even failure, success in this is crucial. That urgency enables them to persevere and learn from their mistakes instead of giving up and avoiding the misery of failure or unhappiness with food, drugs, drink or other escapes.

It's not always an easy road, but it really is a matter of life and death: having a life that will allow you to die feeling personally free, successful and happy with your life. That will provide far more than financial freedom.
