Why your Relationship Will Not Work Do you find that you and your partner spend more time fighting than you do talking? These are all questions that are all too often answered yes to. Perhaps they were never taught by their parents while growing up about healthy relationships or have had only bad examples. Regardless of the reasons, it is never too late to learn how to cultivate healthy relationships. What makes for a bad relationship? The answer to this is many factors. If you and your partner do not know how to effectively communicate then that is a breakdown in the rules of relationships. Another one of these rules is boundaries. At no time does either person in the relationship have the right to cross physical boundaries and abuse the other. Unfortunately, abuse is on the rise all over the world. What’s more, there are many people out there in abusive relationships and do not even realize it. A happy marriage or relationship between two people is open, honest, and caring. However, in cases of abuse, the opposite is the case. Abuse always consists of a mental aspect and then can also at times be physical along with it. What often starts out as jealousy or controlling behavior can quickly escalate to physical abuse. Perhaps your partner puts you down often, does not allow you to be with your friends or family, or even has a tendency to slap, push, or hit you. All of these are signs that you need to seek help. These are all signs of unhealthy relationships. Another sign would be cheating. Because a good marriage or commitment between two people needs to consist of honesty, cheating is never warranted. Perhaps your partner or spouse has sudden business trips or trips with friends. Or maybe you feel as if they have withdrawn from you both sexually and mentally, yet all of a sudden will bring you flowers and gifts. These types of cheating relationships are not able to work until both partners are honest with each other. But how can you work to avoid or correct some of these issues? In cases of abuse, most often the only way to help that is by breaking up and seeking mental health help, and at times legal help. But for many other issues it is as easy as seeking out how to have a relationship. Getting help does not mean you are weak, it simply means that you are in need of guidance. You didn’t learn to drive all on your own? No, you either had lessons or you learned how through books and instruction guides. A relationship is really no different.
