Why Did My Article Get Declined By An Article Marketing Directory?

By: Dennis J. Cole

You have worked hard researching, writing and submitting your article. Do not let your hard work go to waste due to tiny mistakes. Every article marketer makes mistakes, but successful article marketers prevent and fix their mistakes. Articles with minor mistakes are declined, rejected and discarded by article directories.

Some article directory owners do not like rejecting well written articles that have a few mistakes, but they have to protect their reputation. When you submit an article with quite a lot of errors you are saying you just want a backlink and do not care about quality content.

Before you submit your article make sure to read each directories submission guidelines to learn what you can and cannot do. For instance, some directories allow you to use 3 links in the author bio box, but others only allow 2 links. Do not link directly to an affiliate program because most places to not allow it. Also never include links in the body of your article, unless it is an authority website like Google. These are just a few things to look for in the submission guidelines, but remember every directory is different.

Have you ever heard of minimum word count? Surprisingly each directory sets their own minimum word count. You may think that all directories will tell you that your article is to short during the submission process, but unfortunately not all directories are created equal. Some directories do have the capability to check word count before you submit your article, but many do not. I suggest that you write every article with at least 550-600 words. This will put you well above the minimum word count of most directories just enough words for others.

Some authors submit articles that have an improper layout. Do not submit article with many line spaces between paragraphs or not any at all. Also do not use line breaks at directories that have WYSIWYG editors. Line breaks are required for some older article directories, but now days line breaks are obsolete. If you are using an article submission program take time to test it before submitting to several article directories. Articles with an improper layout are usually caused by poorly coded or out dated article submission software, but occasionally it is the authors fault.

Why do you want to take the time to write an article to put broken links in your resource box? To this day I wander why authors waste time submitting articles with mistakes in the resource box. When I write an article I always make sure all the links in the resource box work. I like to create a HTML file that I open with my browser or I use the preview feature to review my resource box. This allows me to test all my links to see if I used the correct html link code.

The next time you write keep everything above in mind. Before you submit your article to several article directories take a few minutes to proof read your article before you begin the submission process. If you do this your article marketing campaign will have better results. If you take your time and follow my advice your articles will get published.
