Why Are Gas Prices So High and What You Can Do

By: Mark Myers

Fuel prices are getting entirely preposterous recently. There are things you can do. Agreed, some of these things will give you a headache, however some are useful. None are simple, but the more we do together, the more we will accomplish.

Why are gas prices so high? The obvious answer is supply and demand. Supply is not enlarging due to international pressure for oil as fast as demand is enlarging. Unfortunately the time of cheap fossil fuels and gasoline are leaving us forever.

The reasons are up to speculation, but America has refused to produce and refine more oil. It is senseless for the vast majority of Americans to feel this agony every time they go to the gas pumps. Yes, everyone gets that there will be environmental prices to pay for oil drilling and new refineries. But the repercussion to the ""white snow polliwog must be balanced with the detriment to our economy. It is condemnable for the USA to have the assets to reduce foreign dependence on oil and decide to do nothing.

What can you do about high gas prices? Call every politician you can find a phone number for. Make them explain exactly why gas prices are so high. Ask them why America hasn't built a new refinery in 30 years. Ask them why they don't support drilling in ANWR. Other than drilling for oil in your yard, this is the only thing you can do to affect supply.

So, why are oil prices so high? You can personally effect demand. Only 20-30 years ago operating an automobile required more than just starting it up and going. You had to manually adjust the choke. My point is, it will require work on your part.

What does this have to do with high gas prices? You need to be prepared for the price of saving up to 80% on your fuel costs. Eventually auto manufacturers will develop alternative energy vehicles when they have no choice. You can wait, and continue paying $3.50 a gallon for gas, or you can do something else NOW.

Alternative energy is not new. The world has been utilizing nature for energy from the beginning of time. Think whale blubber, oxen, horses, wood, sailboats, wind mills, hot springs, fire, and water mills. But history need not repeat itself, as far as transportation goes these all simply won't do, especially when you already own a at least one vehicle.

There is a device you can construct from everyday materials for under $60 that will increase your fuel efficiency. It will burn hydrogen gas from water, on an as needed basis. It then mixes the hydrogen with gasoline in your engine where it is safely ignited, resulting in more efficient use of gas. Using simple tools to make the gadget it will take you a few hours to complete, and less than an hour to install. Here is the issue you will have to maintain it, could possible take as long as 30 minutes every month. Could you spare 30 minutes to save $1 to $1.50 per gallon of gas?

Why are gas prices so high? They don't have to be.
