FIGHT CLUB: In the previews for "16 and Pregnant" Season 3, Jennifer Del Rio is shown getting into a fight with boyfriend as he's taken away by cops. A new crop of underage moms was unveiled last week in a two-minute trailer for the upcoming season of "16 and Pregnant" -- and the previews promise more violence. Meet Jennifer Del Rio of Riverview, Fla., who is trying to raise twin boys Joshua and Noah (born last October) while working toward a GED. In the trailer, a fully enraged Del Rio is seen pounding on her boyfriend, then being restrained and yelling, "Say goodbye to your kids, Josh. You will never see them again," as he is led away in handcuffs. People have higher expectations for drama," says Brian Balthazar, editor of the pop culture which has been covering "16 and Pregnant" from the beginning. "They are going to need to have even more over-the-top characters, even more rebellious kids. "I am sure they have cast a wide net for girls who could be potentially that much worse." Domestic violence has become a key ingredient in MTV's recipe for ratings. Last year, "Teen Mom" star Farrah Abraham of Council Bluffs, Iowa, had her mother arrested for assaulting her during an argument. Just weeks later, tabloid darling Amber Portwood of Anderson, Ind., landed in jail for pummeling her baby daddy in front of their 1-year-old daughter. In neither case did producers step in to help, and MTV only turned over video footage of the Portwood attack after receiving a subpoena.

The series is produced in a documentary format, with an animation of an elaborate cartoon depiction on notebook paper of highlights during each episode preceding the commercial breaks. MTV launched a spin-off series titled Teen Mom, which debuted on December 8, 2009. On January 11, 2011 debuts a new show called Teen Mom 2. Based on a preview of the show's first three episodes, the New York Times called it a "documentary-style series about real-life Junos who are not scoring in the 99th percentile on the verbal portion of their SATs" and said "despite its showcasing of the grim, hard work of single mothering, 16 and Pregnant seems calculated, above all, to incite viewers of The Hills to working-class voyeurism, given how many clich?s of lower-income Middle American life are exploited." "16 and Pregnant" Season 3 returns to MTV. "16 and Pregnant" is an hour-long documentary series focusing on the controversial subject of teen pregnancy. Each episode follows a 5-7 month period in the life of a teenager as she navigates the bumpy terrain of adolescence, growing pains, rebellion, and coming of age; all while dealing with being pregnant. Each story offers an unique look into the wide variety of challenges pregnant teens face: marriage, adoption, religion, gossip, finances, rumors among the community, graduating high school, getting (or losing) a job. Faced with incredibly adult decisions, these girls are forced to sacrifice their teenage years and their high school experiences. But there is an optimism among them; they have the dedication to make their lives work, and to do as they see fit to provide the best for their babies.
