I am very surprised to find that lots of people consider The Twilight Saga as the best vampire film ever made. I have never understood this. Above all I would like to claim that, Twilight is rather a romantic story than a vampire movie. It is an old concept using romance within a vampire story, but in Twilight Saga the affection between a boy and a girl has become the primary theme and supersedes the traditional storyline of the vampire story. It's a weak nominee to be called the greatest vampire movie ever. The well known story is about a vampire losing his heart to a human girl and standing up against his own race to guard her. There's clearly referred -- both in the book and in the film - that The Twilight Saga really is a love story. Instead of the vampires there can be any other kind. The vampires are simply a nice illustration how to make some people looking different from the rest. And above all, if we sit to watch a vampire film, we would expect seeing some horrifying and shocking scenes, something so scary that it stops us from eating popcorn and barely can refrain from screeming (maybe even not). I hereby have to say that Twilight has failed to give me such an emotion. The first Dracula for instance, the notorious horror movie from 1931 about the legendary Count Dracula, it nevertheless makes me shiver to watch it for the 10-th time. But Twilight Saga - it is just a love story with a few vampire characters. I wondner can anybody after seeing it even consider it to be a horror film? Many admirers of Twilight might not agree with the next statement, but I'm also stating that Twilight Saga is quite a teenage movie. I ain't saying that it isn't convinient for persons of all ages (persons from many age groups can definitely find lots of amusing from the movie for themselves), but the casting, storyline and many other factors are created to attract the young public. It's well known that the book was a bestseller among the young generation and they are the main audience of the movie version that the film makers are targeting. A classic horror film shouldn't have these limitations, rather would be forbidden from the young audience because of the cruelty and violence.I'm not saying that Twilight Saga isn't a pleasing movie. It certainly entertains well and has a sweet storyline. Everything I am wishing to explain is that I disagree with the statement of Twilight Saga being the best vampire film ever produced. Instead, it's more of a romantic story. I would certainly recommend to watch some classical movies to agree that the real classical vampire films have a bit different story. You'd have to certainly watch the Draculas from years 1931, 1958 and 1992, Black Sunday (1960), The Night Stalker from year 1972, Blade and Underworld Trilogies etc to uderstand what a true vampire film has to offer! Vampire films are awsome! And there's been lots of good movies made starting from year 1922 (when Nosferatu was released) that can give a suberb and bloodcurdling movie experience!
