Turnkey Websites - How Rich Do You Want To Be? (Part 1) There are many webmasters and coders that sell readymade websites, often called turnkey web sites, on the internet today. Usually predesigned and made from templates that can be used over and over again, the websites are easily produced in just a few hours. If you do a search on Ebay, you will see so-called "established" websites for sale ranging from - $10.00 or less to hundreds of dollars, and dealing with any and every possible theme. If you're interested in clothing, you can buy a website that sells clothing, usually through affiliate programs so you don't even have to handle the products. Interested in Michael Jackson, well there are turnkey websites for sale that handles his products? The ads for these turnkey sites will tell you how you're going to make $1784 (pick your own dollar value) from this source, and $900 from that source, and so on and so on, so just sit back, have your coffee, read your newspaper, and the money will keep coming in 24/7. Are these people trying to scam you - not really?? But, are they telling the whole truth - again not really? Since there are by conservative estimates over 1 trillion unique web addresses on the world wide web today with 30,000 being added each day (again an extremely conservative figure which amounts to over 10 million per year) you should realize that being a webmaster (that word does have a certain ring to it) is not all fun and games. Go to Google and search "furniture" - you will come up with over 200 million search results. Remember the old adage, if it's too good to be true than it probably is? Well, those ads for turnkey web sites are indeed too good to be true. However, it's not the turkey websites themselves that are not true, it's the way in which they are being promoted and sold. Marketing people promote a life of easy riches. I think it's in their blood - it's what they do best. People usually don't stop to think that there are no short cuts in making a decent living. So let me say it again - the website is real- the way in which they sell these sites is the unreal part. If you buy one of these sites you need to realize that you will have to work your butt off to get noticed. The only thing established about these sites is that most often they are live on the net - but they are certainly not established from a business perspective. There are no previous sales records, no customers, and no Google rankings (a Google ranking is when you perform a search and your website comes up on a viewable page - hopefully in the top 3 or higher). In my Goggle search example above, a person interested in buying a furniture website would be among 200 million other websites that deal with that product. Now tell me how is your website going to stand out and get noticed among those incredible numbers? Why would people perceive your site more favorably than the 200 million other sites so that they want to go there, shop there, and spend money there? Before you even think of buying a web site, it is imperative that you answer that question. So hopefully by now I have wrecked your dreams of quick riches or at least have made you think a little bit harder before pursuing this endeavor. But the opportunity in turnkey websites is there- just forget about the marketing sales reports they show how you're going to get rich - it's not going to happen -at least not right away. You will need to work your butt off, you will need to put your time in, you will or should learn a little coding, and you will certainly need patience. More on how to get noticed in part two. But for now, let's go a little further into the costs of these sites. Turnkey web sites can be offered for as little as $10 to $199 or more on Ebay. From a marketing perspective, the going price tends to stay below the $200 mark because of market competition for these sites. The $1 to $10 sites are bare knuckle sites with the seller making money by offering hosting (the place where the website files reside) at a price ranging from $10 to $20 per month with additional costs for other services. The seller makes very little up front in selling the site to you, but makes it up by keeping the files for you on their server for $120 to $240 a year. One site I was involved with was cheap, cheap, cheap or so I thought. Now add in $95 a year for hosting and - oh, you want changes, you want to add this or that function, well that's another $35 or $50 at a clip - first thing you know you've spent $200, $300, or more. I've since unloaded that site. The turnkey sites that sell in the range of $150 - $200 usually offer free hosting (most often these sellers do not own the servers themselves but are using free of charge hosting companies - so the seller is not losing anything by offering it to you for free) and unlimited support. This by far is a much better deal in the long run if you are going to stick with your goals over a period of years. These higher priced sites offer better versatility in modifying and working on the site yourself with little to no experience needed in computer coding. So if you're looking to buy a turnkey web site, be careful, pick your site carefully and buy a site that offers free hosting and unlimited support. Are turnkey websites worth it? Yes. Are you going to get rich? Please- let's not go there - don't believe all the advertising hype. You are not going to make $10,000 a month in a month or maybe even a year - you could, but don't count on it. It takes work- work beyond the wildest imagination of the hyped up ads on Ebay. But you can be successful- just keep in mind that the inexpensive turnkey website you want to purchase is a foundation to build on - and like a house foundation, you can either live in the cellar or build a mansion above your foundation, it's up to you. Part two will include building website exposure and letting people know that you are out there.

Turnkey website ads promise quick wealth for anyone purchasing them. But like most marketing promotions, the ads hype up expectations beyond reality. If you look pass the hype, one can easily see an opportunity in the purchase of one of these sites. However, like any opportunity it takes a lot of hard work to establish the website on the internet.
