Tough Times, Victorious End William James Carter, author of Down the Via Dolorosa, says, "I have heard it said, and so have you, that the Christian life is an easy one. It has been said that once you come to Christ that the problems would be over and that all would be well. With this many come to the saving knowledge of Christ with the anticipation of having all troubles discarded forever and that the winds will subside to gentle breezes during the early summer days. But the poor unsuspecting babe in Christ suddenly finds himself embroiled in situations that he was certain that he would not have to endure. The unexpected onslaught of trouble then causes considerable dismay in the newly saved resulting him in throwing in the towel of Christendom. The truth of the matter is that Christians will endure difficult times. The rain falls on the just and unjust alike. So when the Christian knows that there will be a storm he can prepare for it. As such it is not only unreasonable to suggest that there will be no tough times in Christendom but it is also completely dishonest to suggest that the way of salvation is heavily laden with beds of rose petals. It is more honest to teach newcomers to Christianity that there will be trials and tribulations but that the Christian who is properly focused is not only prepared to endure the battles that are to face him but is also assured of victory if only he press his way to the end. It is these matters that are addressed in Down the Via Dolorosa. Life in Christ will not be a bed of roses. In fact, if we are to have a clear understanding of what Christ endured in order to secure our salvation the picture comes all the more clear that if we are to follow Him then we will also have to endure certain troubles. The reason the troubles will come is because Satan is in full realization that his time is winding up. He knows that the more people come to Christ the closer his permanent demise. Therefore Satan will fight to bring as many down with him as possible. With this, I will borrow a line from Charlotte's Web and say to all my Christian friends "Chin up". Yes, there will be some hard times but keep on moving. The road will be sometimes rough but don't give up. You will be lied on and talked about but hold on to the truth. Some may even try to take your life but stand on the Word of God. You are not in this fight alone but there is a great cloud of witness cheering for you. Not only that, your Savior did not leave you alone. So, Christians, keep on and don't give up. The victory is at hand."
