Tips to Handling Tourist Guides

By: Chief Exploring Officer

If you are the type of person who loves the idea of trips, tours and vacations, then it would be great news to say that 2009 is one great year for these. If you have always loved to travel, then the whole world is just waiting to be explored. One major consideration, though, is whether or not you need the services of tourist guides for your trip.

Most people would acquire the services of tourist guides for the convenience of it especially when traveling in a foreign country. A local tour guide can not only bring you to the best places but they can also serve as your translator and interpreter. Tour guides can also be a cool way of having a local friend at your side especially when you are traveling alone in a foreign place. Also, a guide can give you a taste of the culture that you seek on your vacation.

Here are some useful tips on how you can find the best of tourist guides and the tips on how to handle them on your trip.

1. Choose a local guide.
While you can have a multilingual guide at your side in all your trips to different countries, it would still be the best option to choose a local guide for a certain place. That way, you can have not only added help when it comes to language but also the best of advice and local secrets and stories that can make your vacation more exciting.

2. Be honest with your chosen tour guide.
It is always best to be honest with tour guides because that honesty can lead you to the realization of your vacation or trip expectations. For instance, while people have the general objective to have fun and explore on a trip, people have different priorities. If you like to explore a city's night life, then telling your tour guide about it is the best way to have access to the best night life. If you want a quiet vacation without much exploring, then your tour guide can also provide you with the necessary level of privacy that you seek.

3. Tips are basic.
While you have already made arrangements about the fees associated with your tour and the tourist guides fees, it would not harm your coffers if you would be more open to giving tips and gifts to your guide as well as to some locals. Giving tips does not necessarily mean spending much money. All you have to do is to show them that you are in their country in good will and that you are willing to establish trust and friendship.

4. Feedback
If you have used the services of a travel company or a certain guide, giving feedback is always expected practice. It does not only give you the satisfaction of reacting to the services given but it also provides the company or the person a way to view how their services mattered to you. Feedback can also make a certain service better, in case the provided service was unsatisfactory.
