Tips to Finding for Movies When You Have Forgotten Its Title

By: Chris C Ducker

Have you ever encountered a situation where you remember the plot and actors or actresses of a movie but have forgotten the title of the show? Especially if you want to retrieve the movie to watch it again, facing this problem can be rather frustrating as you start cracking your mind, trying to remember it. And if it is not one of those films on demand, it will be more difficult to ask around. Instead of doing that, there are actually ways to recall the title of the movie, with the help of the Internet. Here are some tips how you can do it.

The first thing you can do is to list out all of the actors and actresses you remember starring in the movie. Do also write down the plot and genre that you remember. Perhaps it was a Western movie? Perhaps it was a musical and drama? What are the possible keywords that could be used in their synopsis – perhaps it was a film about a nun? Find the synonyms for the terms because there are many ways to describe something. These little details can help narrow down your search later on.

Using online movie databases, it is not very difficult to look up for a title of a movie. Some movie databases only allow search based on titles, but the more reputable ones allow searches based details like genre, the actors or actresses, and keywords of the synopsis. When you have found a movie database that allows such search queries, fill up the forms. While genre and the names of the people who acted in a film can be quite easy, choosing the right keywords will require some stringing of words. Use three to five keywords to describe the synopsis, like “singing nun babysits widower’s children”. This allows the search to become more accurate. You do not need to use prepositions like “of”, “to”, “in”, and so on as these common words are usually not taken into account in searches.

Some popular online movie databases are IMDB (Internet Movie Database) and CITWF (Complete Index to World Film), which movie search engines allow people to search beyond the genre, actors, actresses, and plot – one can even create searches based on directors, producers, writers and so on, under their advanced search menu. These movie databases allow search for films on demand and long forgotten films, so whether it was a popular film or not, they are likely to have it archived.
