If there are other valves connected to a certain source, then it would be best to close them too just so you can isolate the issue. - Remove the lid on the meter if it is present. Check the meter if it's moving. A moving hand or dial would indicate that there's a leak or simply running water (if you forgot to close any) so double check if that's the case. Wait for a few minutes if it's not moving, just to make sure. If it moved, then there's a small leak.- Look for the main valve that is usually located near the meter box and turn it off so we can find where the leak is coming from. After doing so, turn on one of the faucets inside the house. There shouldn't be any water running after a couple of seconds, but if it continues then it means the valve is not working properly. If this is the case then it would be best to have it repaired before anything else.- If there's no water coming from the faucet after turning off the main valve, then it is working. Go back and check the meter box after turning off the faucet. While the valve is shut off and the meter is still showing movements, then that would mean the leak is somewhere in between the meter box and the main valve. On the other hand, if there's no movement on the meter, then the leak is somewhere between your house and the valve.
