Here is the story : In 1930, Nikola Tesla asked that his nephew, Petar Savo, who was born in Yugoslavia in 1899, come stay with him in New York. Petar was 43 years younger than Tesla. Prior to that time he had lived under tight conditions in Yugoslavia, which was also where Tesla was born. In 1931, Tesla brought his nephew to Buffalo to unveil and test a new automobile. Tesla had developed it with his own personal funds. It was a Pierce Arrow, a Lincoln Town Car if you want to compare it to something of today. The engine had been taken out, leaving the clutch, gearbox and transmission to the rear wheels undisturbed. The gas engine had been replaced with a round, completely enclosed electric motor with a cooling fan in front. Another part of the system was an energy converter which was located in front of the dash board. A long heavy antenna protruded from the converter. Furthermore, two thick rods extended from the converter housing. Tesla looked at his nephew and pushed the two rods into the system and said "Now we have power." The motor achieved a maximum of 1800rpm. Tesla said it was fairly hot when in use, and therefore a cooling fan was needed. As if this was not enough there was enoughpower in the converter tolight up an entire house while powering the engine of the Pierce Arrow. Testing went on for about a week, achieving a top speed of 90 miles per hour without straining. Its test results were at least as good as those of an automobile using gasoline. When at a stop sign, a passerby noticed that no exhaust gasses were emanating from the exhaust pipe. Petar replied "We have no motor." The vehicle kept on a farm, maybe twenty miles outside of Buffalo, in the area of Niagara Falls. Due partially to the economic crisis at the time, Pierce Arrow stopped manufacturing. So that is the story of how we arrived in the sad state of affairs we are in or at least you know that it was possible to prevent it as far back as 1930. What is past is past and we now have options that we did not have even five years ago.
