Being a praise and worship leader in a tiny group or church may seem light years away from a number of the large church worship meetings you see on tv, but of course they have a lot of things in common. Throughout my career as a praise and worship leader, it has been my privilege to steer worship, sing and play the guitar during a variety of meetings, from enormous stadiums stuffed with tens of thousands of folk right thru the tiny home groups, where a few devoted believers gather to worship and fellowship. I have been a praise and worship leader in conservative churches as well is in Pentecostal churches and in each sort of church in between, and I've done this in my home country of Australia, the US, throughout Asia, Africa and Europe. I have discovered that, despite the dimensions of the audience, basic principles can be applied which can yield positive leads to nearly every scenario, notwithstanding your church denomination, the dimensions of the audience or the variety of people on your worship team. The little cluster praise and worship leader has one clear advantage over the praise and worship leader who is leading thousands of folks: intimacy! Whereas I enjoy leading worship in front of enormous audiences, there's something terribly special regarding leading a little group deep into the intimate and anointing of worship, where it looks virtually as if you are a small group sitting at the feet of the throne. But ,, this will not mean that the techniques and tips which apply when ministering to a giant audience are not any longer applicable. A house church or cell group is in fact the perfect place for the young praise and worship leader to find out, grow and train in the art of worship leading. Several of the information and techniques which we have a tendency to use on stage in front of huge audiences have equal application for a small group. The ability to flow from 1 song to another, going up keys, mixing songs along, singing in harmonies and therefore on every one apply equally to a tiny group as they do to a large.
