The Do's And Don'ts Of Web Design

By: Peter Brittain

With the onset of Internet, many companies have gone online and boosted their business with the help of well-designed websites. Websites represents business, and helps generate more visitors. It is easy to create a website; however web designing can be a challenging task. Your website should be able to create an impression on the visitors and lure them to keep coming back. To make the most from your website, you need to consider certain things.

Here are a few dos and don’ts of web design.

• It is true that graphics and pictures make your website attractive, however too many images will slow down the speed of your site. If your website takes more than 10 seconds to load down, you lose out on several visitors. As per research, visitors wait not more than 7 seconds for a website to download. Have a limitation on your graphics and images. Being too jazzy can make the website come across boring to many visitors.
• There is no need to be smarter and use latest version of HTML, chances are there that not every one has it and hence you may miss traffic. Therefore, it is preferable to stick to the old version.
• Take care that the text files do not exceed more than 10kb. This will help the page to load down faster. In addition, text font and color should be visible and readable. Fonts and color should not hurt the eyes, or the reader will find it difficult to view details. Font that are too small or too large can spoil the image of your website. Also, be careful when you choose background color. Let there be more white space in between so it is more appealing and relaxes the eyes.
• If you want to spread your business, make sure you add your contact details on every page where it can be easily noticeable.
• Use templates to save time and money. They are useful for web layout. However, make sure you do not go in for popular templates, as several other websites use it too, and your site will lose its uniqueness.
• Test your site on every browser. It is not necessary that if your website looks good on Internet explorer it will appear well on Firefox and Opera as well. You need have all the browsers with you so you can check that the website is not coming up blurred and if it is, you can fix the problem.
• Keep updating your website. If you want people to keep coming back to you, you need to promise them some exciting stuff each time. A website is an ongoing event and needs upgrading from time to time. You can try out new designs, change the background color, and most important, create lively and informative content. After all, visitors log on to the net to get information beneficial to them.

If you are not able to design a website, hire a professional but let there be nothing less in your creativity. A well groomed website can do wonders to your business.
