The Czech Republic the Jewel at the Heart of Europe

The Czech Republic is located in the center of the European countries of Poland, Slovakia, Germany and Austria. Prague, the largest city, is the capital of the Czech Republic and the cultural milieu of the country. The Republic has two rivers which wend their way throughout the country, the Vltava and the Labe.

The Czech Republic was formed in the 1990’s when the country gained sovereignty from Slovakia. WWII brought about the return of Czechoslovakia to capitalism. The country had been in the grips of communism following the First World War. The country is now in a good economical place for commerce and cultural events. The Czech Republic remained in good shape following the two World Wars and has retained is medieval facades, cobblestone laneways and bohemian buildings in the center of the capital of Prague.

The history of the Czech Republic has been a long harsh trail of trading with various other countries and being the main market place for all routes of trade. During the various changes in religious grievances, Christianity eventually took the majority and there are many churches with glorious golden spires marking the horizon of the country’s landscape. The main commerce of the country includes car manufacturing, farming, mineral mining, and pottery.

The country is land-locked and has no ocean or sea boundaries for ease of travel or trading. It is completely surrounded by mountain ranges and plateaus, such as the Carpathians, and the Bohemian Forests. The Czech Republic is roughly the size of the State of New York, America. Many small towns and villages house the approximate population of 1.8 million people.

Under the most recent presidency, The Czech Republic has voted and agreed to join NATO and the European Union which was a great step toward working with other European countries. This step will bring the country out of economic and political maelstroms. The Czech Republic is working well with the United States and Great Britain to rebuild its trade and commercial needs. This important step will bring the country back to the modern needs of the country and its people.

The country is attempting to be as independent as possible for food and goods. Tourism remains the main economic industry for the country and the cities such as Prague draw tourists to its restaurants and shops for holidays. When the Iron Curtain was brought down, the tourists from the west were finally allowed to see the mid European countries and their mystical beauty. It has brought about a whole new interest and appreciation for the wonderful country of the Czech Republic which was once under the command of the communist regime. A country can be only as transparent as when it allows others to view its beauty and people.
