Deuteronomy 8:18 and you shall keep in mind the Lord your God: for it is he who gives you power to receive wealth, he may establish (continue) his covenant which he swore with your fathers, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob and it is still the same today.

The word wealth, as translated in this particular verse means plenteous in goods. If you don't mind my saying just what exactly this really means is it is God's will and covenant for people like us to possess a good amount of good stuff.

Do not get silly on me, this does not really imply God wants everyone to be a millionaire however it does imply God wants us to possess nice things. God never wants us to be poor.

Cash is not evil however the love of cash is evil. I do know rich folks who love cash and I know poor folks who love cash and it is evil in both cases. It is not noble to be poor because the Bible even tells us in Deuteronomy 28:15-68 that poverty and sickness is a curse.

Jesus said in John 10:10 I am come that you might have life and have it more abundantly. I only say that if Jesus came in order that we might have an abundant life the least we can do is live an abundant life.

Someone has to pay the expenses and folks who have more than enough cash would be the folks who pay the bills. It requires cash for evangelism, to keep the lights on within the church, to transmit a television signal which carries the gospel into other countries, to pay the preacher and to feed the poor.

The rule of thumb is from is Matthew chapter 6:33 when Jesus said, Seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness and everything you need is going to be given to you. This is not poverty. Having everything you need given unto you is prosperity and that is what Jesus said we could and should have.

The covenant of wealth is a promise God made to Abraham and it is still valid today for all Christians who are sons and daughters of Abraham according to Galatians chapter 3:7 which states that people who are of faith are the children of Abraham.

Verse 9 of the same chapter says that they which be of faith are blessed by God exactly the same way as Abraham.

Genesis 13:2 And Abraham was very rich in cattle, in silver and in gold. Read the entire blessing of Abraham in Deuteronomy 28:1-14. This is how all sons and daughters of Abraham are suppose to live.
