To some going to trial for a serious crime like being charged with murder, one supposes, and the constitution directs, that the accused have proficient legal counsel committed to a strong defense. This is not the way it works in the Commonwealth of Virginia. The attorneys are Officers of the Court, which is true in all states, but they take this further to purport they are beholding to the court. For that reason, the defense is restricted by the rules that disallow the accused anything close to an adversarial court case. Take the case of the Washington sniper. He could have been tried in other jurisdictions but Virginia was chosen because he could be convicted swiftly and put to death just as fast. In this situation it wasn't a bad idea because there was enough proof that he was responsible and the leader of these appalling crimes. Numerous times, no such evidence exists and the case results in the same conviction and execution. The case of the Hodges murders in Vinton, VA in 1994 is the one I am most concerned in and familiar with. Earl Bramblett, the best supporter of the family for over twenty -five years, was charged and convicted of their murders. The verification was scant and what the prosecution and police didn't have, but needed, was concocted from whole cloth. Made up, lied about and perjured to in court. For over ten years I have had a web site trying to get the public to take notice of this train wreck of justice. The citizens in the area where it happened are so scared of the police they will not even remark on it, nor anything else that has to do with any sort of corruption. You would think this city, with a population of almost a hundred thousand, has the most faultless politicians and bureaucrats in the nation. The daily paper is part and parcel of this corruption. The website is allamosa.com and I have brought to print two tales about the murders and events surrounding them. Smoke and Murders is the earliest and the sequel is Three Trailers Down. Each of these tales have their own dot com websites and I invite you to look at them as well as the allamosa dot com one to get the full picture of this actual crime. But, back to the larger picture of justice in Virginia, I can only remind you, when there is injustice for one there is injustice for all. If you live in Virginia, pray that you never come under the prevue of a serious crime or you too will experience this practice that treats the accused guilty by charges. Doug Graham
