Information Technology has to do with the complete development, support and managing of computer information systems. Information technology makes use of computer hardware and software to store, secure, process manage, retrieve and distribute information. The role of information technology can be divided into the following four main categories. IT gives individuals the capability to operate effectively and independently. Technologies that permit people to communicate with one another are network technologies. A very obvious example is the emailing system. Other examples are mini blogs, mashups, instant messaging systems and the like. Present-day network technologies in the workplace augment continuous communication, association and exchange of ideas. IT offers management capabilities that augment decision making process in the office. Information technologies that help manage businesses are usually called Management Information Systems (MIS). These systems process and produce important information and reports and generally improve efficiency. Some of which are health information management systems, human resource management systems and accounting management systems. IT make available enterprise applications that incorporate and specify big business processes for large organizations. Information technology systems that organize the business processes of a whole establishment and the way it communicates with consumers and partners are known as enterprise application software. These types of technologies are typically used by big companies to organize the entire enterprise. A most important example of such IT is supply chain management (SCM). Programs in this group include technologies that control, manage and perform supply chain transaction processes along with dealings. Information technology combines the capability of communication technology and computer systems to turn out significant benefits to the world.
