The finished calendar, with names and phone numbers in case of adjustments, can be presented to mom at the shower. Sometimes neither mom nor new baby needs any new items. A simple party, surrounded by loved ones, is also a nice way to commemorate the upcoming event. As an option, ask guests to bring baby items which you can later donate to a charity or women's shelter. A "freezer party" is another practical theme for a shower, where everyone comes with a freezeable or easily-stored dish of food. During the final days of pregnancy and the first week after the birth, mom will definitely appreciate this. Make sure that mom knows about the shower ahead of time so she can determine if she has enough room for everything, and also pick a day for the shower which is close to her due date. Lastly, if the new baby is what is often known as a caboose baby (several years younger than the next brother or sister), you can still hold a full baby shower. Many times even the "big" items will no longer be around, or will need safety updates, so mom and dad will appreciate all the help they can get. And remember, even if the baby shower is a small one or doesn't feature enormous gifts, the whole reason you are there is to simply show the mom that she and her new baby are cared for.
