Are you a woman who’s frequently out of sorts when it comes to fashion? Don’t be! This article will help you navigate fashion with a few easy-to-remember style rules. First, remember that in the fashion world, small can be enough. If you like following celebrity fashion trends, keep in mind that celebrities often exaggerate trends for maximum photo impact. This overdosed style, however, won’t be guaranteed to work for you on a day-to-day basis. If you really like getting the latest trends, never wear more than two trends together if possible, or else you’re going to look more like a fashion victim than someone in style. Trust your gut instinct. Sometimes we just ignore what our fashion instinct tells us. Stop doing this and listen for a change. When your gut feeling tells you that a trend is too young for you, then chances are you’re probably right. You can dress a bit out of your age group, however, if it makes you feel comfortable doing that. Again, trust your gut feeling. Even if you’re over 45 and you still feel comfortable and look great in a short skirt, then go for it. The same goes for younger women who feel like wearing some classy pantsuits, even if they’re only 21 or 22. The important thing here is that you look and feel good in what you’re wearing. Black is always beautiful. Using black always makes the wearer look more sophisticated; your outfits also look more flattering and expensive. The little black dress is a no-fail option, which just looks good whether you're heading off to a class reunion or walking the decks of a cruise ship. Look for details that flatter your shape and make you look even better, such as a strapless number to show off great shoulders, or an hourglass fit to accentuate your figure. Consider the shelf life of trends you are following. Fashion trends, sometimes referred to as fads, are notoriously fickle. Always keep in mind that fads are just what they’re called – fads. One season everyone is sporting black leggings under miniskirts, the next they are wearing pants. If there’s one thing you ought to know about fashion, it’s that fashion fads are a blip on the fashion timeline. Hot handbags, pants, jackets, skirts, scarves, etc. are quickly tossed aside once new ones come along. What to do? There's nothing wrong with dabbling in “must-have” items, but but remember that they'll only be hot for a short time. Don’t sacrifice your professional image for fashion. Sure, there may be times when ultra-short skirts, strappy blouses, extra-tight dresses, plunging necklines, and high slits will look wonderful on you, but never wear them on your professional, day-to-day routine. Many fashion spreads will peddle a plethora of improper looks in the name of being sexy and feminine, but they won't ever do your career any favors. It doesn’t matter what your work or career is; never wear them to work, period.
