Setting Goals For Internet Marketing Success

By: Ross Kaelin

As with any complicated undertaking, it is key to have the right mindset as you begin deciding on an Internet Marketing home venture. There are two very important Internet marketing facts you need to keep in mind. The first is there are thousands of on line home venture programs. Not every online home business is right for everyone. Make sure you are clear on what is vital of you and how each program rewards you. The second point to keep in mind is the online home business program you select will become the style for your venture. You must take the time to learn how the program works in order to focus your labors and make the kind of money you want to make.
Another area that needs great consideration is your commitment. A lot of people do not think about this enough. They just think they can skate by and learn how to do business on the Internet as they feel like it. This is the furthest thing from the truth. Internet marketing is tough and competitive, and it must be treated that way. Anything less will result in failure. A great way for new marketers to stay focused on their venture in all the right ways is setting goals.

Having goals is a exercise that goes hand in hand with your commitment level. A lot of people talk about goals being key, but I don't think everyone understands how essential goals really are. Their lack of understanding is fine with me. The only people who have to understand the importance are the people who want to really succeed in business, and if they don't want to succeed competition will be less fierce. Long term goals are essential. You have to know where you are going to map out a way to get there. Do you want to supplement your income, or do you want to replace it all together? Once you answer that question you can decide what you need to make it happen. Your short term goals will be your road maps and street signs along the way. Things like what you need to learn to do this month, or how many web pages you need built by next week. These types of small goals will help to keep you moving forward and being as constructive as possible.

Having goals and completing them are two different things. I know as well as anyone how hard it is to initially get into the routine of setting a goal and seeing it through to the end. For some, like myself, it is an uphill battle with almost no regard to the goals set. This can be caused by any number of scenarios, but at the end of the day the only thing that matters is what you accomplished. For this reason I want to give you my two favorite methods of both remembering to set goals and remembering to do what it takes to finalize the tasks.

My most used technique is geared toward remembering to set goals by having a goal chart hanging in my immediate work area. This can be anything from a piece of notebook paper to a professional dry erase chart sheet. The essential aspect of this chart is just to have it in a place that is visible almost all day. It must be there and be a constant reminder. On my own chart I have a spot for my month end goal, week end goals, and daily goals. All of my daily goals build toward my week end goals, and my week end goals lead to my monthly goal. This method is designed to make me remember to set my new goals, and it helps to stay on track and focused for the most productive month I can have.

The second trick that I employ is focused on goal completion. I have a little celebration for every goal that I finalize. Different things I have done range from having a soda or a piece of candy to playing a quick online game or watching a funny YouTube video. I must warn against celebrations like games and videos though. I find that those are quite counterproductive as you lose track of time, and can end up on YouTube for the rest of the day. If you are the type that is easily visually motivated, you could get by with just crossing the goal off your list or something similar. A method that a friend of mine uses is stacking coins. Every time he completes a goal he puts another coin on the stack. The larger the task the higher value coin he puts on top. It's a great way to add physical recognition to tasks that can otherwise be forgotten about.
Remember to treat your home based business as a real venture and you will do fine. Make sure to have the right mindset about it and always be moving forward. Set your goals and they will keep you in line and on track.
