The main ways you can sell gold are: Become an investor and buy up gold bullion to sell off later for a profit; collect gold coins or other gold artifacts; buy and sell estate jewelry; sell off your own or your families jewels, become a real prospector in the hills (or elsewhere). Whichever way you want to go, you will need to do a little preparation and make sure you know what you are doing to get the best cash for gold you can. Coin and artifact collecting: * Are you familiar with gold coins? Some are worth more for their rarity value than for their actual gold content. * Do you have books or research articles available on valuable coins and precious metals? * Can you recognize genuine gold artifacts if you see them either online, or at offline auctions or fairs? * Genuine artifacts will not have a familiar stamp on them - are you prepared to have them valuated so you can sell them? Do you know enough to know you won't get duped? Estate jewelry: * Do you know how to look for the karat (carat) rating on a piece of gold jewelry and understand what they mean? * Do you have a loupe or at least a magnifying glass and know where to look? * Can you tell a real diamond from a fake? * Have you done a bit of research on design eras for estate jewelry? - at least enough to know what is antique, what is vintage, what is retro etc? * Do you have an idea of where you might sell the estate jewelry you find? * Do you know how to clean the jewelry you find to make it presentable? * Do you have a passion and an eye for great gold jewelry? * Are you prepared to give up some or all of your jewelry for profit, or are you likely to keep it all for yourself? Sofa and attic prospectors: * Do you think there is a possibility you have some hidden gold somewhere? * Are you prepared to take the time to find it? * Are you ready to get cash for gold and not look back? Out in the field prospectors * Do you have the right equipment? Metal detector, pan and other accessories? * Are you prepared to put in the time and deal with disappointment? * Are you prepared to hold a huge party when you finally find that nugget of gold? Whatever way you want to do your gold hunting be prepared. You may find adventure, you may suffer a few losses, or who knows you may just find that pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.
