The San Diego Aztecs had a miserable year or some would say a miserable decade with nary a shot at a bowl. The past season was at an all time low with ten losses. The responsibility to turn around that dismal record has now been thrust upon the shoulders of Brady Hoke. Coach Hoke used to be at the helm of Ball State University's Cardinals before he was hired to take on the challenge of turning around the sad state of the San Diego State Aztecs. So far there are no promises of doing that by having timetables for the team. He declares though that it is possible to alter the course of the team and maybe lead them to a bowl. Furthermore, he stated that everybody in the team, from the players to the coaching staff, are looking forward to winning. The team has to have a tough demeanor and be more aggressive to make a dent in their record. They are willing to take the consequences of whatever will happen to the games and by that they would like the outcome to be a victory. He went on to emphasize accountability and winning. Hoke has a contract reportedly at $3,525,000 with the Aztecs for five years. It started when he took over the head coaching position after the then head coach, Chuck Long was fired last November. The San Diego Aztecs was down to 2-10 in 2008. It was seen by most as a parallel move from the Mid-American Conference to another non BCS conference which is the Mountain West Conference but Hoke a indicated that Utah will have its second attempt for a BCS bowl game. He wants to set a direction for the team. He wants the team, players to staff, to have the same dream. He wants everybody to share the vision which in order to be reached then they have to think that they are champions. It is what pushes or limits the players and the team as a whole. Setting limits according to him halts the development of the team He encourages others to push and break down barriers and for the team who has just some goals, it is like having a new lease in life. Hoke's leadership brought the Ball State U Cardinals a 12-1 games. The one loss was incurred during the Mac Championship where they played against the Buffalo. Hoke started his winning season when he got entered his fifth year but observers say that with the San Diego State University Aztecs that can come even earlier. He had an excellent performance as head coach of the Ball State U Cardinals where they achieved several firsts. One of which was for being included in the Top 25 poll of the Associated Press. They also made their appearance at a bowl game after a conspicuous absence for more than ten years. With Hoke at the forefront of the San Diego Aztecs, they are also expected to have a lot of firsts.
