It was February of this year when Rihanna revealed to the whole world when rapper Chris Brown abused her. It happened too fast and the world has witnessed the whole drama. The sensational artist who gave us the worldwide hit “Umbrella” just could not take so much of the rain that poured down on her. She is indeed a victim of violence against women gaining support and sympathy from various women advocate groups all over the world. The battle between Rihhana and her abuser Chris Brown still continues in court but sources say that Rihanna has recovered greatly from the experience. Even Kanye West, a real close friend of Rihanna’s, condemned the beating of Brown to her friend. But despite of the abuse, Rihanna continues to perform simply telling her fans that she is already alright and ready as ever to entertain them. Rihanna music has even gotten more attention since the bad news came out. But even without such incident, Robyn Rihanna Fenty, her real name, has proven to the whole world that she is one special and talented girl. Robyn grew up in the Carribean island of Barbados where she was discovered by Evan Rogers who helped her record her demo for Def Jam Records. Jay-Z took notice of the girl’s singing prowess and she was eventually taken in. Robyn signed a contract with Def Jam label and released her first major solo album entitled ‘Music of the Sun” in August of 2005. The album contains most of the songs that she co-wrote. The album skyrocketed in US, Canada and the United Kingdom when her carrier single “Pon de Replay” was released. On that year Rihanna music was getting so much attention and she found herself touring with Gwen Stefani promoting her album. Rihanna survived the sophomore jinx with her second album entitled “A Girl Like Me” which spawned smash hits like the digital lead single SOS landing at number 1 on the Billborad Hot 100 and Pop 100. The single sold 169,000 copies on its first week. The second single off the album was written by Ne-yo entitled “Unfaithful”, a real emotional rendition by Rihhana about guilt and love and the mix of both of an adulterer’s point of view. This song made Rihhana music even bigger and this paved the way to big endorsement contracts for Nike and JC Penney. She even had a cameo role in the movie “Bring It On 3”. Rihhana’s biggest hit is the song “Umbrella” that gained worldwide respect for the artist. Rihanna music is known for its flow and lyrics. It gives a fresh take on what we always know as R&B but her music is a blend of many genres such as Pop, Hip Hop, Rock, Dance and Barbadian sound. Rihhanna music has dfinitely survived the “beginner’s luck” phase and for such as a multi-talented artist, luck is just a teeny-weeny part of the whole picture. Rihanna and her music will always stay because the “it” is simply overflowing. It’s not purely luck that brought Rihanna to where she is right now, but pure determination in following the dream. It could happen to anyone, you know. It’s a good thing that Rihanna music is here to remind us all.
