Reviewing Four Common Marriage Issues

By: Janine Gillip

Each year, the experts are touting the latest lists of common marriage issues. Even though there are regular top 10 lists, it seemed better to emphasize the top four. They should be fairly obvious once you glance at them. More importantly, you will likely agree that these issues deserve top billing on any list.

Almost every top four list begins by listing money as number one. More couples fight over money and finances than any other issue. This issue is often about control and nothing says it better than separate bank accounts. Basically, when one wants a separate account, the other is against it for various reasons. Strangely enough, financial experts have reported that you may actually argue less when you have access to your own supply of money. The problem occurs with this when one spouse is making large purchases without informing the other. Naturally, it is better to reach an agreement with your spouse for these costly purchases before you spend money. The other aspect of this that creates marriage issues involves the lack of communication. This lack of regard for financial stability may even produce debt troubles for the couple if they're not careful.

It isn't a surprise to most of you that sex is the second highest of the top four marriage issues. One of the most common reasons cited for this was a low frequency of sex. Some reports mention that both men and women spoke up in with this reason, but, of course, men were the higher number. The conclusion was that they both want more sex more often. The other cause of sexual tension had to do with pornography use among men. With a significant lead, men were listed as visiting gentlemen's clubs and pornographic pages online on a regular basis. The issue is worsened when the women discover what their men have been doing.

A unexpected third on the top 4 list of marriage issues was in-laws. It's unfortunate that one or both of the spouses have family that can cause difficulties in the marriage. Disruptive behavior can get so intense, that the entire marriage deteriorates as a result. According to numbers, both women and men are guilty in this situation. The root of the issue involves one or both of the spouses' family members getting too involved in personal affairs. This may mean that you or your spouse have a nosy family. When this happens, the spouse with the nosy family should to tell their family to butt out, but often this isn't what happens. The fights and the conflict get worse because one spouse won't stick up for the other.

Adultery ranks in fourth place on that list of marriage issues. The numbers on adulterous affairs are staggering, which means that more people are cheating on their spouses. Of course, men lead the way here as well. Women are actually closing this gap. The fourth issue is often a direct result of the sex issue mentioned earlier. For men it is a lack of sexual intimacy. For women, however, it is more based on lack of emotional care. Both sexes wind up searching for fulfillment outside the marriage and get caught in the process.
