Revealed- How To Find Quality Buyer Vacancies

By: Gen Wright

Buyers are an important part of the supply chain, and are in high demand at any time of growth in the industry. 2010 is a period of slow but steady economic growth following a recession, which means that vacancies will be easy to find, but also very easy to fill.

Here are some ways in which you can find vacancies for buyer jobs, and hopefully get a nose in the door before the influx of applicants hits the job poster.

  1. Make it known that you are available. Through the recession, a large number of good and able workers have been laid off. Being laid off, as a result, is not an indicator of incompetence any more - just of the then-alarming economic situation. Therefore, you are perfectly justified in approaching your previous employers for jobs now that the industry is looking up. Carry your resume with you, and always dress as you would for a job interview when you are going to ask for these favours. Also speak to friends and family, and ask them to spread the word about your availability for work.

  2. Subscribe to the job pages of major companies. A number of companies post jobs on their own website as soon as a vacancy opens up. This is a much quicker process for the company than contacting a recruitment agency or job portal and putting up the posting there. Responding immediately to such an ad, especially if you are well qualified for the job, gives you a good chance of getting in.

  3. Cold call. The secret to cold calling lies in breaking the ice between you and the company. Speak to a company representative, and do not be scared to pitch your services as soon as you see an opening. After this, send in a resume - ideally in person - and politely ask that your name be considered in case a vacancy opens up at some point. Some people have cold calling down to a fine art, but they are mostly telemarketers or freelancers. Hopefully, you will not have to hone your skills too far before they get you a job as a buyer.

  4. Through job portals Most small companies post jobs on job portals as soon as vacancies open up. Keep a very close eye on buyer job listings, keep your resume prepared and handy, and send it in as soon as you see the vacancy. Applying early is extremely advantageous, as most job posters choose the first application that looks good to them, rather than vetting through large numbers of applications.

Buyer jobs are advertised in a number of job portals all over the Internet, and there will always be some duplicates. Subscribe to the RSS feeds, check them regularly, apply promptly, and you will definitely get results in a very short time.

Senior buyer vacancies can be hard to find online, as they are mostly filled by word of mouth. Junior buyer roles on the other hand are easy to find online - just click on the listing, post your resume and cover letter, and hope for the best!
