Protection From Spyware and Adware on Cars, TVs and Phones?

By: brett whitaker

What do TVs, phones and cars have in common? All three are or are becoming Internet attached.

What does this have to do with a threat of spyware and adware you ask? Read on for a glimpse into the future (get ready to cue spooky music...)

Cell phones have been the first to add connectivity to the Internet - albeit slow and clumsy at first, however, smart cellular phones with Internet connectivity are the default phones of choice at the moment and work amazingly well. Also, devices between cellular phones and full-fledged computers: computer tablets are at the present on the scene and are gaining steam. Tablets such as the iPad (Apple), Android tablet (Google) and Slate (Microsoft) are all but dependent on the Internet.

TVs with direct Internet connectivity are being designed at present and a majority of TV makers are creating and advertising new TVs with scores of Internet capabilities. Three features of direct TV Internet are: Web browsing, motion pictures on demand and service components (examples: viewing local weather conditions and sporting events scores). TV producers are seeing direct Internet connectivity as a way to add new client services (and corporation profit) without having the expenditure of going through cable operators and sometimes Microsoft or Google to deliver customer services. Imagine connecting your TV directly to the World wide web and browsing the web or watching a movie on Netflix.

The good news: we will have more options, extra services and new competition to cut prices for not only TVs - also the additional services the TVs provide (movies on demand).

Cars are gradually getting interested in the direct Internet connection marketplace and have several years to go to be really ready for customers. Screens are already especially prominent in minivans and SUV's alike enabling children to watch DVD's or play their favorite game system. As screens continue to be added in automobiles and turn into normal equipment, car companies will continue adding the choice for Internet connectivity.

Ok go ahead and start spooky music... history predicts spyware, virus and malware activity will be close by as phones, TVs and cars become more connected. Could you envision intermittent pop-ups on your TV from a virus or spyware and adware infection? The future is a bright place and the better news is: anti-virus and anti-spyware vendors will be required to work with TV, car and phone manufacturers to drop this risk and real likelihood. Our world continues on the road to becoming more connected and unless a technical breakthrough is achieved, each additional device we connect to the Internet will yield a corresponding need for a service to look after and eliminate security threats. Phones are likely the next device to need protection followed by tablets and TVs. While our future continues on the way to information sharing on a near endless amount of devices and gadgets, a priority from makers will be to safe guard public information and keep virus and spyware activity off all devices.
