The phrase political left is usually utilized to describe a liberal or a Democrat. Generally a liberal was a person who believed in the civil rights of the individual. They wanted to reduce the influence of the Church or religious sects without defying the conventions of the Constitution. They were normally linked to being the patriots of liberty and would appear, on paper at the very least, to be extra tolerant and more generous. The political right on the other hand can be used to describe someone who was more conservative in their outlook on life. If a hostile condition arose within the Middle East for example, while the political left would be ready to work with the UN and try to reach a peaceful agreement, the right would typically advocate an armed response specifically if they believed the USA was in danger. The political right was normally linked to being American patriots. Historically, the Republicans would have been seen to support the armed forces plus its veterans, although it is debatable whether that is still the case. They believed in a business spirit, after all this is the USA where anybody can become rich if they believe in their dreams. With the current financial slump, there are lots of people who believe that individuals on the political right would support the capitalistic ideal at the expense of regular people's pensions and stock holdings. Whether or not you see eye to eye or oppose with both party, it is more than apparent that there are extreme viewpoints on both sides. For example certain conservatives think that every individual should be responsible for their healthcare, education etc. After all if others can be successful why can't everybody? They do not buy into the fact that some folks simply are not cut out to be entrepreneurs. There are in addition issues on the political left which has been accused of stifling the American dream by way of its fiscal course of action. Regardless of which side of the political enviornment you sit, one thing is clear. You will never be bored if you are studying, or involved in, politics.
