Opinion Sports: The Legacy of Abdul-Jabbar Outside the NBA Court

Opinion Sports --The retired American basketball player, coach, author, and actor, Kareen Abdul-Jabbar, is presently being treated for an unnusual form of leukemia. The former NBA player legendary for the "skyhook" was diagnosed with severe myeloid leukemia last December stated by the Associated Press report.

Currently, Abdul-Jabbar is working as a paid spokesman for the Swiss pharmaceutical company Novartis, the manufacturer of a medicine that treats the malady. The 62-year-old man said that he wants to give essential information about the disease to the world to help people and help save lives.

At the moment, Abdul-Jabar is working as a special assistant with the Lakers. He said that he does not need to minimize his activity level of coaching. To make his statement more direct, he is just saying that he would not allow his illness to consume him and ruin his obligations. He can still have a normal way of life and have a regular lifestyle.

This positive attitude that is displayed by Kareem to his illness is really encouraging. Instead of quitting on the game and drown himself in self-pity and misery, the NBA prided sportsman is bravely facing his foe with all strenght knowing that success is so possible to acquire even in the last few minutes of life.

Certainly, the battle for adverse illness or poor health is a hard fight for us to face. But we must have the courage to face problems. It will create a great difference--not just about the life of the person with disease but also to the people around us.

Lets just not forget that what matters most eventually is not about a person's defeat or triumph; it is about how he fought for a wonderful life. It is true, this contemplation is inspired by by a popular quote, but we must learn to plant it into our heart.
