Microsoft Speed Up Windows XP

By: John Rapp

No one wants to deal with a slow computer especially when trying to get some work done. Opening that application and waiting minutes is just painful. There are things that can be done to keep your computer running fast. First, you need to have a proper virus scanner and malware scanner on your machine. Viruses and malware will slow down your machine and in some cases ruin all your files.

Second, it's a good idea to keep proper maintenance on your machine. This means keeping your virus scanner and malware scanners up to date. It's a great idea to keep scanning your machine for viruses but it makes no sense to do so unless the virus scanner is up to date. New viruses come out all the time so you need your updates. If your virus scanner is out of date and requires the yearly fee, go grab AVG anti-virus.

Third, be careful about what free programs you download off of the internet. Be careful about what exe files you run on your machine. Many slowness in computers are caused by the end user downloading and running programs that have all sorts of other things it installs on your machine. These extra programs can even be spying on your keystrokes, so be careful.

At one point in time your computer feels fast. Then it gets slow over time. One of the reasons for this is because your registry is changed. These changes sometimes cause corruptions and errors in this registry. It's a good idea to have a registry cleaner on your machine so that these errors in the registry can be fixed letting the computer run closer to the speeds that you experienced when you first purchased the machine.
