Light at the end of the tunnel for the UK house building jobs market.

By: Daniel Taylor

The house building sector was the first to be hit in the recession and it looks like it may be one of the first to bounce back from the downturn. There are still many people searching for house building jobs in the residential development and construction sectors but for those people there may be hope on the horizon as House Builders return to site, re-capitalise and actively pursue land acquisitions once more.

Over the last 18 months many highly qualified and talented house building professionals have turned to work outside of the industry to keep themselves in employment and many are still searching. The start of January 2010 sees continued improvements in the House Building sector as many House Builders look to strengthen their depleted land banks to fuel construction pipelines in 2011-2012. Unfinished sites are active once more which is good news for many site based professionals and there are a number of site manager jobs being advertised as well as quantity surveyor jobs in the new build social housing sectors in London and the South East where the need for housing has never been greater. The requirement for New homes sales jobs are also increasing as house builders look to capitalise on buy to let investors seeking a better return on their money than they would from the banks. Residential Development Jobs and Residential Construction jobs are now being advertised by many recruitment agencies and online job boards and the overall outlook for the house building jobs sector looks increasingly optimistic for 2010 as many house builders had cut back on staff so excessively they are now having to very quickly re-plensish their work force to manage the influx of new housebuilding projects. There are a number of house building jobs currently being advertised on the internet including technical manager jobs, technical co-ordinator jobs, land manager jobs and construction director jobs as well as architectural technician jobs, residential town planner jobs and design engineer jobs.

The indications the UK House Building sector was in trouble started way back in September 2008 coinciding with the collapse of Northern Rock and for some house building professionals this was an unexpected and truly unforgiving time. For a number of people who lost their house building jobs the last 18 months have been a desperate time searching for house building jobs whilst developers have mothballed sites and pulled down the shutters

Most of the current jobs seem to be in London and the South East although Scotland, the North West and some parts of the Midlands are seeing signs of a recovery in 2010. Let us hope the improvement in the house building jobs sector is sustained and many professionals return to the jobs they are qualified to undertake.
