Hardware is anything you can touch that is part of your computer. Anything you can touch, pick up, plug out, throw due to sheer frustration all qualify in this category. The visible components of your PC or your laptop all fall under this category. There are a lot of devices that make up the computer or laptop. While there are basic things that make up a computer or laptop, parts or components may differ from one PC or laptop to another. However, those who have a desktop usually have the same components and the same set-up. Laptops or notebooks also have similar components only the components are squeezed in a smaller, tighter area. Layout and features may vary from one unit or model, however. The basic computer hardware comprises of the screen or monitor, the system unit, speakers, a keyboard, mouse, and microphone. Note however, that the system unit is still made up of tinier and more complicated parts. This is actually the computer if you take things technically. The other stuff is called peripheral devices as they aid and enhance the function of the computer itself. Part of this system unit is your disk drive where you can insert CDs or DVDs. Another part of the disk drive is the hard disk where information and data from your computer are stored. You can also use external devices which are also hardware to save and store more data or software for your computer. Such devices include flash or thumb drives, an external hard disk, and CDs and DVDs. The Random Access Memory (RAM) temporarily stores information of the stuff you are working on or the software you are using while the computer is running. Using RAM while you work means the computer can process it faster. When you watch movies through your PC or listen to music, you use a lot of other devices. Your speakers, headphones, and monitor are also items that you could call hardware. Other items include your mouse, the keyboard, and your web camera. These items, as was already mention, enhance your PC and let you enjoy a lot of different programs or software. If you'd like to apply a specific color scheme for your laptop or PC, these devices can be bought at different colors, sizes, and even wireless varieties. While these items are fixtures that make up your entire computer, they can be changed and upgraded so you can get the most out of these devices. You can but the latest models of webcams, keyboards, mouse, and even RAMs if you want your PC or laptop to perform well. If you want more speed, efficiency, or are looking for a specific function or use for a device, you can easily replace parts and buy new ones. This perhaps is the best thing about hardware: parts can be changed to make a better whole.
