Multi-level-Marketing (MLM), according to Wikipedia, is a marketing structure used by some companies as part of their overall marketing strategy. They way that it works is that when someone brings someone else on and that someone else gets a lead and then brings in someone else who in turn makes a sale...etc you get paid for it. On a commission bases, you are at the top and everyone else is at the bottom. You would get paid for everything below you, plus what you bring in. The people below you in the line are your downline, the persons, that brought you in are your upline, usually the upline trains the downline how to market in order to make money, so they can make more money.The services and the company is marketed directly, usually by word of mouth marketing, or what is mistaken as network marketing, which is sometimes used to describe MLM.Some people call MLM or affiliate marketing a fraud or something to be frowned upon. The best thing to do is to research the business to start with, then start looking into some training, such as free webinars, or complete training systems on how to market; don't just rely on the upline for the complete training, do some research to see who is really doing what. MLM builds levels of marketers, Multi-Level Marketing, as it also builds up a residual income through commissions, while network marketing is going out and selling a single product through marketing in MySpace, forums, etc for a one-time profit/income.Picture this you have a graphics design company, you tell each of your customers that they can make say ten bucks a person that they bring to you. Then tell every customer that they will get the same or a percentage of pepole that they bring, you keep doing this. Now each customer is making money off of their customer/lead. This builds up to where each person can make money on different levels depending on how many people they have brought in, and so on and so forth, therefore creating multiple levels of both marketing for the business and multiple levels of income for the marketers.The way that you get the word out is where network marketing comes into play. Marketing through such things as MySpace, Twitter, Facebook...etc. Making friends, having followers that are all like minded, has some great results. There is no point marketing about baby toys to a group of single men, right? Keep that in mind when you set out on your marketing campaigns, find the right targeted groups for the right products and or services. Remember that you are setting out to get noticed by people that are interested in your product/idea. You have to brand yourself by not selling your product, but baiting in the customer by providing information, information that will help them in some shape, way, or form. By branding yourself as a leader first, and people will buy into what you have too sell, because you have earned their trust. Always remeber, "people do business with people." If someone comes to you to sell you something, you have no idea who this person is, are you going to buy their product? On the other hand, a friend comes to you with the same item, your more than likely to buy it from him. Why? Not just because you want to help him/her out, but because you know this person, you know he/she is honest, you know they are not going to BS you just to get a sale, and that is why you would make a purchase from them rather than some person off the street.
