Iron It Yourself - How To Iron A Shirt Correctly

By: Gen Wright

I know a lot of men out there struggle with how to iron a shirt. This predicament normally sets in at the time when there is a break through job interview that requires them to be as smart as possible.

If you are reading this article for such a purpose or any other you will be very pleased to know that I have listed in this article a few tips on ironing a shirt.

The first thing you should do to achieve the best ironing board is wash your clothes with a fabric softener. I mention this very important step because fabric softeners make clothes soft and easier to iron.

To get the picture imagine ironing an extremely wrinkled shirt that was not put in a fabric softener. A soft shirt is far much easier and less stressful when ironing.

When ironing shirts you should button them and then make sure that they are evenly aligned. Make sure there are no bulgings from the inside that can cause wrinkles and distorted creases on the backside of your shirt. When it has been spread out evenly on your ironing board you can then start to press it with an iron.

But when pressing the clothes with an iron the temperature or heat settings must be specific to the material you are ironing. If your shirt is made from cotton then choose the settings for cotton and nothing else.

Be very careful to never iron shirts with an iron that is too hot. Shirts are normally made of delicate material that can burn if you lose your focus while ironing.

The last important thing to remember is that you should use a tight fitting iron board cover. If it is tight fitting you do not have to worry about cover overlappings that spill over beneath the shirt you are ironing.

When you iron your clothes on a tight fitting board the chances of getting creases are close to nothing.

In the case of ironing a t-shirt, it's a pretty similar process.

The label on the collar of your t-shirt are a good indication of what must be done when ironing them. Most clothes specify what sort of ironing they require based on what material they are made from.

If the t-shirt is made of cotton it must tell you that the heat settings must be placed on cotton. Neglecting to do so can burn clothes or result in them not being properly ironed.

You can iron your t-shirts at relatively low heat. Maximum selections of heat are risky, because you don't want to put a burn mark on your favorite t-shirt. Plus, you are probably looking to only get rid of the major wrinkles, keeping a casual look.

You had better use an ironing board, or at least an ironing blanket. Ironing boards are normally made of wood or metal to make for better pressing.

This is in contrast to using your bed because they will not be adequately pressed. But the ironing board must be stable or else you might make mistakes that can lead to your t-shirts getting burned, or turning out with ironed-in wrinkles.
