A common dog illness is ringworm, and it can be prevented and treated if your dog is suffering from the infection. Many illnesses affect dogs, some are quite common and arise no matter how well looked after your dog is at any time. Dogs are creatures of the outside world, and they can get involved in anything. Ringworm seems to be common in puppies and older dogs. Other frequent dog infections can be prevented with the correct vaccinations and proper health care. Ringworm is a skin infection that attacks the general health of the dog. The common dog infection ringworm has multiple different ways to be identified and diagnosed. The common way to detect this fungal skin infection is with a black light. The ringworms illuminate in the black light when the light hits them. Sometimes this practice won’t work and a vet will need to perform another test to detect the ringworm. If you notice tiny areas on your pets body without hair, there’s a high chance your dog has ringworm. Their skin will be scaly and you’ll see pus in the area. After time the areas become bigger if your pet receives no medical attention. You will see this fungi on the legs, tail and head. If the health of the dog is excellent then the fungal skin infection will disappear in about four months. However, when severe cases exist, medical treatments are required. If your dog has the lesion, cutting their hair that’s surrounding the area is needed, but do not come into contact with the lesion or the infection will spread. Administer a topical ringworm treatment after cutting the hair away. Such anti fungal treatments like miconazole and lotrimin treatments are applied for this purpose, or you can choose to use natural, side effect free alternatives. You mustn’t allow your gog to lick the area where you administer the treatment. A dog funnel collar might be required to prevent the dog from licking the area. If the treatment alone does not work, ringworm shampoos and ringworm dips will benefit your dog, and help the infected area to heal quicker. Some other anti fungal active ingredients are griseofulvin and itraconazole, which work well on a dog. Keeping your dog in perfect health and protected from viral, bacterial and fungal infections is your responsibility. The most important need of the dog is regular vaccines and proper care. Dogs need vaccines against distemper, rabies and provirus. Dogs also need to be looked at by a vet annually for heartworm which can cause death to the dog if not properly prevented. Keep in mind that rabies vaccinations are given every two years and distemper vaccinations are received annually. Many conditions cause health issues, and in a variety of dogs, the breed is open to more health issues than others. Joint and heart problems account for a couple of these more serious health issues. When looking to purchase a dog, you need to be aware of some of the health issues that can arise in a dog’s life. Besides the everyday parasites and injuries from rough play, some dogs are more likely to get mange, eye infection and ear infections.
