How to use the Media Effectively

By: Bizymoms.com Management

There are numerous forms of media to choose from. With the Internet taking on a bigger role every day, there are more options than ever before. But the traditional roles of the newspaper, radio, magazine, and billboard are still effective. In a sea of advertising with many similar products in the market, as a business owner, you need to consider which forms of media best suit your product and your target market. Each form of media also has its own advantages and disadvantages. Your first step is to study where your customers are looking for information and gain an insight into which form or forms of media are right for your business and your customers.

Newspapers are still considered one of the most effective forms of advertising. Even though they may be cluttered, have a lower production quality and shorter life span for your advertisement, newspapers are still widely read especially on weekends, and have a wide range of specialty sections.

Television is also a good form of media. While production and airtime costs are high, television continues to have a high impact and high audience coverage.

Direct mail is another option for effectively marketing your business, your products and services. Some consider this form of advertising to be junk mail and a waste of precious resources, but at the same time, it gives you as a business owner greater creative flexibility and an easy way of testing your market.

Other forms of media include magazines, outdoor advertising and the yellow pages. And let’s not forget the speed of email and the infinite possibilities that the Internet has to offer. With online social groups and networks becoming more popular, they are also proving to be effective tools for marketing your business and its products.

It may be that you need to use different media at different times. But the factors to consider include knowing who you are targeting and where to promote your product. Research needs to be done to find which media is most suitable at which time, and how your target market is acting at a specific period, as well. Depending on these factors, you will need to test different options and make decisions based on the results. As part of any marketing strategy, studying the media, using it and getting the desired results is an ongoing and changing process.

Know your market and study how it changes over time. By understanding what you need for your business and what your target market needs from you, you will be able to effectively use the media to your advantage.
