How to Store Cutlery

By: searchrankpros1

Cutlery needs to be stored properly in order to add to its longevity. Such things as cutlery cabinets, drawer separators, knife racks and knife blocks are the kind of thing that you will need to look for. Here is a description of the kind of items you can get to store your cutlery in:

Cutlery cabinets are a good choice for storage. They are often made of wood and are little boxes, which will fit your cutlery set in them. Lined with soft materials such as felt or velvet, they will prevent any marks being put onto each piece and cushion them from any damage at all. Because they have a slot for each piece, this is the ideal way to store cutlery that you will be using on the table. You can also get boxes for knife sets and suchlike.

Often you can purchase these when buying the cutlery of knives themselves, or they may even be included in the deal. If it is not included, then it can be a good idea to ask for a cabinet in the shop and see if you can get a discount because of the large amount of cutlery you are purchasing: you may even get one for free. These are really good for organisation too, as often there will be a little pull out layer for each type of cutlery (knife, fork, spoon etc) so you can get things out in sequence as you are laying the table.

Drawer separators are quite standard, and will have about 4 compartments in them, each to store a different type of cutlery. These will avoid everything getting mixed up together and being damaged in a hard drawer. This is what I would suggest for your everyday cutlery to be used on the table, as it will not keep it quite as safe and protected as a cabinet will, but will still give some form of organisation and protection. You should make sure you regularly take your tidy out of the drawer to clean down with hot water and antibacterial soap.

Knife blocks and knife racks are two ways to organise your chef’s knives and suchlike. You can get magnetic ones for the wall, in order to keep all of your knives in one place. This will allow you to keep an eye on your knives. Make sure you mount this high on a wall, so any young visitors or pets cannot accidentally knock or grab hold of a sharp knife. Knife blocks are, traditionally, the solid wooden ones that each knife slots into, blade first. These are slightly safer, as the blades are covered, but it can be easy to catch a handle and knock the whole thing over. You need to make sure that you do not let the blades touch on a magnetic knife rack, and the strength of the magnets is vital. These can be safe and convenient as long as you get a strong enough magnet- otherwise knives may fall if they are heavy.
The most important thing about any method of storage is to clean your cutlery well beforehand though, this will make sure that is does not stain and that is stays in the best condition possible.
