When we talk about search engine rankings, we can't help but talk a little about search engine optimization. What most people know about search engine optimization, is that they need to get as many back links as possible. Half the number of these people know that these back links should come from authority sites (like sites having a high Google page rank). So when you go to an SEO online forum, you'll hear many people talking about page rank. But the problem is, that's all they ever talk about. They keep focusing on the page rank, and talk about nothing but page rank. How did these authority sites get a high page rank in the first place? Here's where 99% of the people in these forums get it wrong. They think that by having tons of back links on high page rank sites, they will eventually achieve high page rank themselves. Maybe that's true, especially if the site is new. So what exactly is wrong here? Let's take a closer look at these high page rank sites and see what they have in common. The first thing that you should observe is that many of the sites that rank well in the search engines have a large number of pages in them. Not only do they have a large number of pages, these pages contain valuable information. It doesn't matter if these content are usually user generated, but the fact remains that these sites are extremely useful for their visitors. In other words, they bring value to the table, not just thousands and thousands of pages of useless content. I'm sure after the above paragraph, you would have guessed that many of these successful sites have figured this out long ago. They focused on generating useful applications and content. Sure, they may start out like every new site and buy some links here and there for promotion but they never lose sight of the ball. Some of these have gone off to be sold at six figures. Others have made millions for their founders. So you see, the bull's eye has always been generating useful content. Many people don't really know this. So they spend all their time buying links, talking about page rank, and doing all that less important stuff when what they should have been doing is to create valuable content. Think about this. Even with tons of promotion, if your sites do not have useful content, you have to keep promoting it. And that means you keep paying and paying marketing dollars. With a killer site, you can stretch that same marketing dollar because every visitor that comes to your site, will tell others about how useful your site is. Better still, they may link to you from their blogs. And that's how links grow virally and naturally. so if you're going to write your next article, write useful articles. Post them on your sites and to article directories, and visitors will come to your sites again and again, boosting them to the next level of success.
