How to Build a Better Lifestyle

By: Michael Nunn

Have you ever wondered if your lifestyle is right for you? Many people settle for mediocrity when they really could be achieving more these days. Millions of people have less money, less time for the things they like to do, less of everything that makes for a full, rich life. This article shares some advice on how to evaluate your lifestyle and identifies a few changes you might make to live the way you really want.

Lifestyle is all about how we as people spend our time. It encompasses everything we do in our daily lives. Our place of work, working hours, income, family and our overall living situation. It is therefore critical to think about the way our lives are turning out and determine if we are happy about it or decide if there is anything we would like to change.

In these modern times, the main factors in lifestyle are time and money. For some people who are blessed enough to be born into wealthy families, finding the money to do great and pleasurable things is simple. These same people often have the kind of freedom to do things that poorer people do not have. It is sometimes said that people in this situation are referred to as being financially free. They have an abundance of money and therefore are not necessarily tied down to regular type jobs, and instead can do pretty much whatever they please, whenever they want.

Some people have excellent careers that pay them well, and as a result, have plenty of cash to buy nice things and travel to exotic places. However, more often than not, these people rely exclusively on their jobs for their financial security, i.e. Freedom, and inevitably, end up trading a great proportion of their time to be able to buy the nice things they like.

The next group of people constitutes the majority of our society. These are the people who work long, hard hours to make enough cash just to make ends meet. For most of us, this is generally the case. These people are not rich, either in monetary terms or in terms of free, spare time. Many people in this category dream of someday breaking free from their jobs and careers and having the lifestyle they truly want.

It is sometimes said that the most satisfied or happiest among us are those who are able through circumstance to pursue their passions. Those people who are able to spend their time doing the things they desperately love doing. Whether that be raising their children, doing things for people less fortunate, or even writing novels. Being able to do exactly what you want, when you want to do it, is the fundamental building block of a great lifestyle. Now and then, however, you need to do some things you do not necessarily like to do in order to get the financial freedom to really make your own choices.

If you want something you do not currently have, or just want to improve your living situation, you have what we call ambition, often referred to as vision. Sometimes, being able to turn that ambition into reality involves a good plan for success, and requires determination, focus, and more often than not, a lot of hard work. Being positive and actively being ambitious is one of the better ways of improving your own lifestyle. By being positive and passionate about what you want to achieve, you are more likely to make good things happen in your life, and your lifestyle will improve as a result.

Once you have decided where you want to go in life, it is critical to create a plan for success. Doing things without a plan may bring good results now and then, but if those actions are part of a good plan, then the long term benefits for your lifestyle are likely to be better. Set measurable goals and make sure you check back regularly to review your progress. Your goals should be reachable but challenging to achieve. Stretch yourself to reach your targets and you will grow as a person.

So, the key to getting the lifestyle you really want comes down to a few simple steps. Determine what you have at the moment in terms of time and money. Think about what it is you need to create the ultimate lifestyle for yourself and your family. Next, get ambitious, solidify your vision. Decide what you need and want out of life and what you are prepared to do to get it. Once you have a strong desire or vision, devise a plan for success and put it into action. Set yourself some challenging goals and monitor your progress regularly. You will be rewarded not only by a sense of accomplishment, but in knowing that you are doing everything you can to get your lifestyle working for you.
