The year 2012 holds a allure for a lot of individuals who believe in an end times prophecy. In various cultures around the world, there is a belief that we are soon to enter a period that will result in vast planetary changes and the probable extinction of the human race. It is not simply in the ancient Mayan culture that such tales exist, they are also furnish in Native American culture, the Bible, the Koran, and a huge number of other spiritual and belief systems. When we stop and take a look at today's world, it is all too easy to predict the coming of the end of days. The speed of change that we now see is nothing like at any time in human civilization. Our impact on the planet cannot be brought into doubt. The Earth is almost at breaking point due to man's invariable demand for resources and over-consumption. There is no denying that we are entering a time of change. One thing is for certain, this is that it is purely not sustainable for us as a species to carry on the way we are. Sooner or later there will be a breach point, wherein all the systems that are now in place will come crashing down. Whether this takes place in 2012 or a few decades later is impossible to predict, what is for certain is that it is not possible for us to carry on as we are without bringing an end to the world we know. Let's take a look at our climate. Though we may possibly debate whether global warming and climate change are brought on by our love affair with fossil fuels, there is no denying that the weather systems are becoming more extreme. The ice caps at the North Pole, and those that cover Antarctica, are melting at a rate sooner than what was predicted even just a decade ago, this in turn has an impact on other systems such as the Gulf Stream. It should come as no surprise to learn that the last few winters in the northern hemisphere have been the coldest since records began. Another piece of evidence that is often used to hint at the coming of the end of the world is the amount of mega earthquakes that have happened over the last few years. In fact, in just the last five years, there has occurred earthquakes of the level that have not taken place at anytime in the preceding one hundred years. What is the cause of this trend is not known, but it is believed that these mega-disasters will continue, and possibly even strengthen in number. Pole shift is another topic that is often linked to end times predictions. If anybody suggested a decade ago that the magnetic north pole would quickly migrate from its location at the top of the globe, such people would have been laughed at. Today the evidence exists that shows that the pole is moving, and at a speed which is frighteningly fast. In fact, several airports (such as Tampa, Florida) have had to repaint the compass readings on their runways to keep up with the shift in the magnetic pole. Though there is still a tendency to mock and poke fun at individuals who believe in an end times prophecy, there is real evidence to point that such a period is about to be upon us. Now is the time to prepare for the dawn of a new age.
