How Much Will Electric Hybrid Plug-In Automobiles Influence The Power Grid?

By: GARKO

The answer depends on when people are going to recharge their cars, basically. That is the pivotal factor. A new study from the Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) concluded that a move to plug-ins might require a bunch of new power boxes or maybe none at all – the pivotal factor is when most people will decide to recharge their cars.
While some forecasts which surmise that there won’t be any serious surge in demand due to their assumptions that owners will charge their cars only during night time hours, Stan Hadley, of ORNL’s Cooling, Heating and Power Technologies Program doesn’t see it that way. ”That assumption doesn’t really inegrate into the equation human nature,” said Hadley, who led the study. “Consumers’ will do what they always do and that is to plug in when convenient, rather than when utilities request them to. Utilities will need to create incentives to encourage people to wait. There have also been devices that have been created such as ’smart’ chargers that know the price of power, the current load on the grid and the time when the automobile will need recharging next to optimize charging for both the owner and the utility.”
ORNL ran multiple scenarios in their study, with projections of an assumed market penetration of 25% for plug-in hybrids by 2020. The worst case scenario assumed that all plug-in owners would charge their cars at 5 PM – under these conditions the demand would neccessitate 160 new large power plants that would have to be constructed and gotten into action in order to provide for the additional demand. The best case scenario was based on an assumption that everyone charged their cars after 10 PM – which is when the average demand on the electrical system is at its low and the wholesale price for electricity is at its cheapest. In this scenario, there was no additional power generation required. While both are representing extreme examples and not the reality of everyday life, the ORNL study arrived with the overall conclusion that with a combination of incentives and tools such as smart charges, the demand for supplemental power capability can be handled.
A very legitimate factor which was not part of their study, though, was Water4Gas. And Water4Gas does not require any new demand on the power supply, does not have a need for recharging or plugging in and is considerably less costly than going out and buying an electric car and it can be easily installed into your current automobile!
WATER4GAS is offering information at a low price which car owners can use at home to create a small gizmo which infuses hydrogen into the fuel/air mixture that their vehicle runs on.
What this does is make smaller particles out of the ones that the engine burns as fuel. Therefore the engine is able to use considerably more of the fuel.
With WATER4GAS you can minimumly expect to increase your fuel performance by thirty to fifty percent or significantly more. Those goblets "musta" been pretty darn big in some systems before. But with WATER4GAS they are made usable so you can increase your fuel performance.
It also helps make emissions substantially cleaner.
