The home alarm is a great deterrent that helps reduce burglaries and prevents vandalism and intrusions. They are also highly effective in preventing fire, can alert to flooding or even detecting gas leaks. In short, an alarm system can be beneficial, but how do you decide which is the right alarm system for you ? Should you go all the way and get the most sophisticated system equipped with video surveillance and monitoring to better protect yourself or would a simpler less expensive type of system suffice ? Also how will choosing a particular security system affect your insurance premiums?First there are 2 basic types of home security systems available, the choice being the difference between a wired or wireless alarm. A wireless alarm is easy to install, however, the system works through a radio frequency mode. The door and window sensors will emit a signal to the main central panel that will then sound the alarm. Depending on the level of sophistication, the system will be capable of sending a signal to your cell phone alerting you of an incident, and or even alerting the police or fire dept. A ,wireless alarm system will also contain a motion detector. In the past the motion detector presented a problem for pet owners, whereas pets would sometimes trigger the alarm because the motion detector would sense their movement in the home while the owners were away. Thus it required pets to be locked up in an area of the home outside the motion detector's range. However today, there are pet friendly systems that are sophisticated enough to be able to differentiate between smaller animals and humans. These systems can be programmed to only detect moving bodies that are over 100 pounds. In selecting an alarm system one must also consider the level of protection required . When the alarm is installed on the outside (perimeter fence or a bit further from home), it can help deter possible intruders from even entering onto the property because it discourages the burglar to even get near the house. Of course with all exterior motion detection systems, the possibility of false alarms can increase if the system is not properly positioned. The system may sound if a car simply drives up the driveway, therefore it is important to ensure that the system will not trigger unnecessarily. There are many different features that can be added to the existing wireless system if one chooses to upgrade eventually. Some of these option include surveillance cameras, remote video monitoring via the internet, remote control activation or deactivation , 24/7 monitoring and other components.Hopefully this will give you an idea about the possibilities and options that are available for the homeowner in regards to choosing the proper security system.
