Hints, Tips and Tricks to Improve your Baby Skin Care Regimen

By: Andre Contado

There is more to baby skin care than most parents realize.

Caring for your baby's skin means caring for all of a baby's skin. Newborn babies are very susceptible to skin conditions because it takes time for the skin to get used to life outside of the womb.

The best baby skin care involves parents making smart decisions all day. Anything from your baby's clothing to the soap that is used in his (or her) bath has the potential to affect his (or her) skin.

Don't stress out too much though: practicing good baby skin care does not have to be intricate or hard. With just a little bit of common sense it can be really simple. If you need some help figuring out just how to care for your baby's skin, keep reading!

In addition to using sunscreen on any part of your baby's skin that isn't covered in clothing, you should take extra care with areas like the baby's cheeks, nose, ears and lips.

When you take the baby outside give him some extra protection by putting some zinc oxide on his face and ears. Don't forget that sunny days always require a hat or a bonnet! There isn't any such thing as being too cautious!

The laundry detergent you use on your own stuff is going to be too harsh to use on your baby's clothing and bedding.

Baby clothes are softer than adult clothing and regular laundry detergent can strip them of their softness. A gentle laundry soap won't roughen up your son or daughter's clothing and it rinses off the clothing more completely so you won't have to worry about any residue being left behind and causing a skin irritation.

You don't need a lot of soap at bath time to keep your baby's skin clean. A few drops are about all you need to clean him thoroughly.

If you use too much soap you could dry out his skin which will leave him vulnerable for skin irritants. Never directly apply soap to your baby's skin. Use a washcloth to work up a lather from the soap which you will use to clean your baby before you rinse him off.

It will be easier for you, especially during the first few months of your baby's life, to clean one part of your baby completely at a time. Trying to handle a soapy baby is downright frightening.

You have a lot of options to choose from to help you protect your child's skin. Remember, good skin care habits start early so it is a good idea to do everything you can to develop a good baby skin care routine.

Don't forget to care for your baby's whole body when you are putting together a baby skin care routine.
