Healthy Eating

By: hannah albreck

However, the two are closely linked and the best diet to lose belly fat still involves an overall healthy eating and weight loss plan that includes exercises targeted towards strengthening the abs and flattening the belly. While dieting is essential for weight loss, any diet to lose belly fat should also help us develop healthy eating habits. Not only will healthy eating habits help us live a healthier lifestyle overall, but healthy eating is critical for keeping abdominal fat off.

One new research study examined the effect of different eating patterns on overall fatness and abdominal fatness[1]. Researchers administered questionnaires to individuals who were part of an urban Mexican population that took part in the Health Workers Cohort Study. The impact of three different eating patterns, a prudent diet, a Westernized diet, and a high animal protein/fat diet, on the risk for becoming overweight was assessed. People following the Westernized diet to the greatest extent were 46% more likely to be fat and 64% more likely to have excess abdominal fat. People consuming high amounts of animal protein and fat were 23% more likely to be fat. In contrast, people following the healthy eating pattern of the prudent diet (lots of fruits and vegetables) were nearly 20% less likely to have high body fat levels. This suggests that a prudent diet rich in fruits and vegetables can be a good diet to lose belly fat.

A second new research study tested the effect of a healthy eating food index based on traditional Nordic foods on overall mortality Analysis of the information collected showed that each one-point increase in the healthy eating food index was linked to a substantially lower mortality rate in both men and women. Some of the traditional Nordic foods linked to this healthy food index included fish, cabbages, rye bread, oatmeal, apples, pears, and root vegetables. Similar to the prudent diet, this Nordic food index included plenty of fruits and vegetables. Based on these similarities, these foods appear to be excellent choices to include in a diet to lose belly fat.

Both of these studies suggest that a diet that includes plenty of fruits and vegetables is a good diet pattern to follow and that developing such healthy eating habits can help reduce our chances of becoming fat. Based on these studies, it is clear that developing healthy eating habits is an important part of a good diet to lose belly fat. If you are looking for a diet to lose belly fat, look for a diet that helps you learn healthier eating habits. This likely will be your best diet to lose belly fat because not only will it help you lose weight and belly fat, it will help you keep it off.
