Fundraising Skills is an e-learning organisation that provides Open College Network accredited training. Internet-based courses run over six weeks and are supported by tutors who all have first hand fundraising experience. The UK’s 1st Accredited Fundraising Course for the Health Sector The Certificate in Healthcare Fundraising is a new Level 3 online course for healthcare organisations, hospices and support groups. The course is aimed at individuals who are likely to shoulder the responsibility for raising funds while doing many other things. With case studies from counselling services, support groups, hospices and care services, the Certificate in Healthcare Fundraising shows you how to attract funds from the lottery, trusts, legacies, corporate bodies and the local community. Developed by David Poppitt and based on his experience managing campaigns for hospitals, health authorities and charities, including Derian House Children’s Hospice, an MS Support Group, Age Concern, British Red Cross and Clatterbridge NHS Trust. David raised over £4 million for the Christie Hospital and will be drawing on this expertise when he teaching the course online. To date this course has attracted Hospice fundraisers, administrators and events staff wanting to broaden their skills and gain a Level 3 award. Our company Fundraising Skills is an e-learning organisation that provides Open College Network accredited training. Internet-based courses run over six weeks and are supported by tutors who all have first hand fundraising experience. The company founder and course designer, Louise Germaney, worked for ten years as a grants assessor and was one of the original National Lottery assessors in the mid nineties. What we do and what we cost The Certificate in Grantsmanship and Certificate in Healthcare Fundraising give a multitude of writing tips, sources for researching funders and the blueprint for fundraising planning. The courses focus on how and where to attract funding, present funding applications and give them the best chance of success. In order to pass either Certificate, students are required to produce a letter to a grant making trust or case for support, assess a lottery application and produce a funding strategy. As requested, I attach learning outcomes for both programmes. The cost is £395 per head and reduces to £355 for 2+ participants from the same organisation. This includes course materials, tutor support and Level 3 accreditation with the Open College Network. Flexible and user friendly Colleagues can work together in a “virtual” classroom at a time that suits them. There are Discussion Boards for each part of the course, which encourage interaction between all participants and are a great way to exchange experiences and ideas – there are usually representatives from several organisations in a single “class”, so you get the outside view too. In contrast to traditional classroom-based training, students can work through the course at their own pace, fitting their study time around their commitments and selecting the time of day when they are at their best to learn. The site is easy to use – you don’t need to be an IT expert to study with us, but we also provide the support of a tutor and office-based staff on a well publicised telephone number. Our excellent track record The 1,000 + individuals we have trained to date range from novice fundraisers to experienced fundraising staff wanting an injection of new ideas (or refreshing old ones!) Their feedback is always positive, there is always something new to be learned, even by the most seasoned fundraisers. What students say about us “Doing the course has helped to give me a better structure and clearer approach to looking for and applying for funds.” “I found looking at other bids as part of the course really informative, and evaluating and scoring them helps to give you a better indication of what an assessor is going to be looking for.” “I feel I have learnt a lot about presentation styles and am clearer about how to word letters and gain interest in a project”. “Thanks a bunch, despite being really apprehensive about doing this course, I have enjoyed the experience”. 2008 Course Dates: Our online courses are available throughout 2007 on the following dates: 14th January -- 22nd February 2008 31st March -- 9th May 2008 2nd June -- 11th July 2008 8th Sept – 17th Oct 2008 3rd Nov – 12th Dec 2008 With thanks Louise Germaney, Course Leader Fundraising Skills Ltd www.fundraisingskills.co.uk 0191 2755042 Fundraising Skills Ltd Ouseburn Building East Quayside Newcastle upon Tyne NE6 1LL
