Google Suggest is NOT the answer to your questions

By: Roberto Garabell

As you type into the search box, Google Suggest guesses what you're typing and offers suggestions in real time. This is similar to Google's "Did you mean?" feature that offers alternative spellings for your query after you search, except that it works in real time. For example, if you type "bass," Google Suggest might offer a list of refinements that include "bass fishing" or "bass guitar." Similarly, if you type in only part of a word, like "prog," Google Suggest might offer you refinements like "programming," "programming languages," "progesterone," or "progressive." You can choose one by scrolling up or down the list with the arrow keys or mouse.

The algorithm shows the popular/relevant for results that match your query, therefore you can easily see what people are searching for. I took the liberty of trying out a few, and the results do worth a laughter. See the screenshots below.

Let's start with something easy. It's clearly obvious that many people use Google for "how to" questions. The most commonly used questions are as it follows:

how to 1

The most popular by far is "how to make money". Sure, after typing that, Google automatically recognizes you as a person, sorts out your skills and clearly points out the best paid job for you. Yes, this is how it really works. If it doesn't, consider being a hero and ask for instructions on "how to save a life" or check for tie tying tutorials online with "how to tie a tie".

Going deeper by asking Google "how to make".

how to 2

We can clearly see that most people are romantic since the #1 search is "how to make out". This, or those are all guys trying to have sex but starting slow. If that fails, noting the fact that the online presence nowadays is a must, the second most popular suggestion is "how to make a website". Way to go, wealthy web 2.0 contributors. We all have to start somewhere, so let's continue with this.

howto 3

By taking a look at the first two most popular searches, I can't stop thinking at the Designer/ not a designer animation. Of course, everyone wants to know "how they can get a website for free". Nothing else worths mentioning.

Anyway, what I'm trying to point out here is that Google is well known for the fact that it provides answers to your questions, but if you plan into asking general stuff, just hope that someone, out there did that, already.
Google on,
